Leftover fabric etc! (karma: 9)

Hi,
It seems that an awful lot of us parents are experimenting with dressmaking. This led me to thinking that this forum would be the ideal place for people to offer fabric etc that they haven't used or stones that are leftover. I'm sure there are plenty of us with various bits and pieces that we are unlikely to use that might be useful to someone else or if someone is looking for something in paticular they could ask if anyone else on here has it. It would be up to the individuals involved if it was for sale or swap. What does anyone else think?

Hi,
I know that you can get practically anything on e.bay but i just thought that as we are all from the same dance community people might be able to help each other out at the same time as clearing their own remnants etc.
Just an idea

I think this is a fantastic idea I usually end up giving my remenants to our local primary school for the children to use in art. I dont mind but that is a lot of good fabric they get.

What a great idea - I have just had to order some more fabric as I needed to make two arm and wrist bands. The thing about ordering small amounts is that the postage is usually more than the fabric as the shops have a set price.I'm sure other mums have find this too so come on lets get together and work something out. I have a big bag waiting!!

I think this is a great idea! I recently spent quite a bit on some fabric and didn't actually like it that much when it arrived! I ended up using it anyway because of the cost but I guess if I could have sold it on I might have considered...

Come on then lets get sorting through our sewing boxes!!!

Hi Charlotte,
Great idea, I've got loads of leftover fabrics, most
aren't big enough to make cossies but would make hair wraps and
arm bands etc,.
P'haps we should make a sticky(don't ask me how!) where
everyone could post their requests and those of us with bits and bobs could look at regularly to see if we could help out.
Or maybe we could list all of us will to help?
Over to you....

Best of luck, count me in,
Holly. ;)

Hi Holly,
I agree with you that a sticky would be the best place to do this. Maybe if people put their requests/offers on the sticky but if people want to respond they should PM the author. I am going to PM the mods to see if this is possible. I notice on one of the other forums a parent has asked for a small amount of boning and that is exactly the sort of thing this post could be useful for. Glad you like the idea!

how about a system such as this?
name:
Location:
what i am after: (i.e leftover boning, stones, lycra to test on etc)
Just my idea.
how about having a mod edit your original message to add in this little system as many people don't read the replies.
Sincerely,
Lisa x
