just saying, you should check out the improved ultimate SI packing list. I just took this list and copied it, and then took the people's items they recommended from the comments and put them in the list. I hope it's helpful.

Thank you so much! This list will really help me pack for my summer intensive. I am going to SAB's 2012 summer coarse... Any tips on how I can fit all my stuff into two carry on bags?!

Wow!!! Thanks you're list is great!!! Not sure if you have this on the list but a folding drying rack because most leos need to hand dry, command hooks for your closet and walls cause they don't take off any wall paint, a small trash can, and a tennis ball for rolling out your feet. To Nate395 I have the same problem for fitting everything in 2 suitcases and remember that you can get all or mostnof your toiletries like shampoo and conditioner and everything else at a target or walmart when you get there. Same thing with all the stuff I listed above and then you can always donate it at the end of the program:):):):)

This is a great list, and I know it's old, but why would you take a landline phone with you?

Some SIs will have a phone line in the room but no phone. You provide that. They also may have a fee for phone calls per room, like for hotels. You might have to activate the land-line via a temporary account through the SI. It varies from SI to SI.

I want o extend Serendipity42's remarks on phones.

Many of the bigger SI's have relationships with their local colleges/Uni's, to use the colleges student dorms for their SI housing, as the Uni is not really utilizing most and/or all of their dorms during the summer. Great win-win for both parties, and it can keep the price of housing down for the SI students v. having to pay for a hotel, and/or since youth hostel's are not an ideal place for a SI student longer term stay since they have so few amenities, and little privacy.

However, these dorms tend to be of older construction (70's/80's/90's) and they were built to have hard wired telephone lines in the rooms, which was standard construction practice back in the day. -- Hence the reason to bring your own corded phone. Now granted, today, almost everyone has a cellphone/iPhone/mobile. But do be aware, that most of these older dorms were built with a ton (and I mean a TON) of concrete and steel (colleges wanted these puppies fire-proof as well) so getting a good cell signal might be a challenge. Also, getting bandwidth might be finicky due to signal drop because off all the concrete and steel used.

So word to the wise, unless the college has done a really good job retrofitting its dorm rooms with good fiber, router's, and amplified wireless bandwidth, then I would recommend a SI student plan on packing her own MiFi or iPhone hot-spot as well so she can use her lap-top during down-time at the dorm.

(P.S. - Laptops/iPads/tablets, etc.should be put on the modern & updated SI packing list!)

Sorry, it's just the construction engineer in me, and it just comes out naturally sometimes :>)

Happy SI Packing!!

Haha this is great!! It might be on your list but you could bring a plastic bucket to fill with ice and cold water to soak your feet in after a long day of classes. I've heard that it's painful but worth it!
