Adult Ballet Classes in Singapore en>fr fr>en

Hi, I don't have a ballet background and have only started as an adult one month ago. I would like to switch to another studio and am looking for recommendations.

I'm old :) but I intend to take the RAD exams someday so I'm looking for a good place that treats adult students seriously. 1.5 hour classes are preferable to 1 hour classes (which I think are too short) but I welcome all suggestions!I have checked the PA website but it seems that community centres don't have beginner classes for adults.

Please tell me why x studio or teacher is good, especially if you have taken their classes! Thanks

I think you should make calls to the various dance studios to see what they offer. And maybe take a few trial classes to see if they suit you or not.

I wonder which studio you are in? Care to share?

I'm doing classes at fahrenheit studio which is located at chinatown. Its a quaint little studio located just outside the mrt station, very easy to get there!

I'm 19 and I've just started ballet (with absolutely no experience at all.) The teacher is really nice and i think she will coach for RAD exams! She's encouraging us to get certified from the studio first.. to ensure we are really good! She's very dedicated and absolutely nice! She's also very very encouraging. The most important thing is she works with our aims and dreams and coaches us in the direction we want to go in ballet. That was important to me because I didn't want to go to a studio that wasn't serious or was simply treating class as a recreation kinda thing. All in all, she's amazing!

I have only started for 6 lessons and i attend her advanced ballet lessons too. She also prepares us for pointe work. The girls in my beginner class, 4 of us, are pretty dedicated. I personally want to take RAD exams too! The environment at the studio is great cos we're all very nice people!! No snobs or unfriendly gals!

However, our classes are one hour. It does feel a little short sometimes but generally its ok! But we can take two lessons a week which makes up for it. Plus I think she would allow you to come for a trial class (not entirely sure though). The number for the studio is 6225 1563. We have a class on saturday. It's gonna start at 4pm. Call the studio and see what they say!!! If u get to speak to the teacher, I'm sure you'll find out how nice she is!

I sound like i'm advertising! But i just love the studio sooo much!!! I'm attending classes even though i'm having my exams! I consider myself really fortunate to have stumbled across Fahrenheit. I hope hope so much to see you join our class! Remember.. its 62251563. Fahrenheit.

PM me and keep me updatd k? I hope you find a good studio soon!

lots lots and lots of love,
Amanda

Yeah! Attitude Arts rocks man! I'm doing Inter-foundation there. No prob if you wanna join us. You can also join adult ballet classes. Some are master classes but Mr Ferrer. In my class, only 3 of us are about 15, the rest are in uni already. So it'll be okay if you join us. The teacher's really fun! But we'll be taking exams this sept. Our syllabus class is about 2 to 2 and a 1/2 hours. Plus an open class on another day. The teacher's really good cos' she gives you exercises to work on your weak points, and she treats all of us equally. And there's another adult student who's going for exams with me. The rest might not be taking it this year, so maybe you can join us in time for the next exam. attitudearts.com

No you're kidding! I don't think i'm quite ready for master classes. I used to get taught by Mr Ferrer when i was 10 in primary school :) now i'm 21 and not so great. I just called Attitude for their times and i'll be starting at beginners on thursdays. Maybe i'll work my way up. Thanks for all the advice! Good luck with exams in Sept.

Hi,
yeah i do remember a dance company TNT. but i think that was something like 4 years ago. don't know if they still exist. you can try yellowpages.com.sg (yellow pages!).
Hey i do my ballet in jitterbugs on mondays and the teacher is so so nice. will be going to another studio to try it out - would that be considered 'wrong'? in the sense that i would be learning from two studios at the same time, unloyal in a way?
Thanks!

^ Hmm... I thought so too... Sometimes, i've thought of learning different grades from 2 different studios. But i thought if the director or my teacher ever finds out, i'm doomed. But i think it's ok for you, cos' you are only trying out, not necessarily joining them. Moreover, Jitterbugs ain't doing ballet very seriously, so i think it's ok. Though it's all up to you. :D

Thanks for your advice! Yes, i realise that loyalty is a big issue, got that in my skating lessons between coaches. what a mess. anyway yeah even within the same studio there are different teachers on different days - but like you said, i'm not really good at it at the moment so i guess it doesnt make a difference just trying it out. Thanks for your input!

Hey, i want to try the adult ballet class at attitude, but not sure of which level to join. i have had previous experience with ballet but forgotten almost all of it, and am currently taking some classes.

jump - you went for ballet foundation? can you remember what stuff do they teach in the class? coz i was unsure if i should take the foundation class or the Adult Ballet 1. and which centre do you go to?

Thanks alot!!

Erm... ABC foundation does very basic work, usually starting from the beginning, where no one knows anything. ABC 1 does more advanced work concerning more centrework and jumps like glissades and assembles. Attitude's trying out a new system in july. Where anyone wants to join their ABCs without much knowledge, they will have to do ABC foundation for a year before getting promoted to ABC 1. Very much like a syllabus. Call them to check it out. And yes, anyway, if you do intend to take classes, i recommend going for the one in Bt Timah, cos' all the good teachers are all based there, while the one at Suntec, if im not wrong, got newer teachers.

Hi :)
When I went for foundation, the class had been going on for about 9 months, tho most people were either there for about 4 months or 1st or 2nd time at the studio. We did the basic barre work (please excuse me, i dont know how to spell anything) tondue, glisse, grand batmond (?) and fondues. don't know if we did frappes. In the centre we did the sauttes eschapes changemonts and ensemble and glissads too. (The ones that you mentioned that you do in ABC1) I thought it was easy to follow and not to intimidating because the people were really friendly and were brave enough to say when they couldn't remember the steps.

Sorry for posting twice.. I forgot to mention that I went to the Bukit Timah studio. If you call them up to ask if you should join the ABCfoundation like this thursday or monday, chances are the lady on the phone will try to persuade you not to go and to join the year-course starting in july. If you think you have some amount of ballet background, I would suggest you give the classes a try because you might be able to fit in just nicely.
Not sure why the foundation and ABC1 seem to overlap. ballet4mylife can you let us know what else you do in ABC1? thanks!
