Locked by edendancer (78823) on 2005-12-23 11:29:43 It's been here soooooooooo long now!!!

Hey Guys,

I just thought I would share some of my most recently decorated cakes with you!! Most of the cakes here I decorated as presents for people, I only got paid for the pink engagement cake.

I started when I was about 10, took classes and did some competition work, now it is really teaching myself, and inventing the skills I need, eg. I wanted to make a horse cake and so learnt how to do it!! Lol!

Please let me know what you think, I hope that this is the right board, it is really a hobby!!

The horse cake was for a friends 18th, she is really into horses (strangely enough!!) so I made her this cake!!

This was a 'Finding Nemo' cake I made for my sister's 21st birthday.....! On the opposite end of the cake there was more coral and on the back there was the chain and anchor for the boat.

This was a birthday cake I did for my friend's 18th, not particularly 'birthday' but I got a bit carried away!!!

This is my most recent cake, I did it for a woman I work with, she was going away at Easter to get married in Antigua, so I did her and her (now) husband in their wedding outfits on the beach. He proposed by arranging pebbles on the beach to 'marry me' hense my pebbles!

Here is just a close up of the figures

This is an engagement cake I did for my friend's cousin (Jayde was her daughter and they didn't want to her feel left out!)

So yeah, I have PLENTY more, which I will happily share if anybody wants to see. But feel free to let me know what you think, if there are any critiques etc!!!

WOW they are ABSOLUTELY amazing!! I am SO impressed!
I have recently started to make my friends cakes for their birthdays rather than buy presents (as I am a poor poor struggling student AND i have a very bad addiction to raw cake mix!!)
I REALLY am impressed theyre much better than mine but Im pretty sure that Ill get as good as you one day!!
Im having a hawaiian birthday party (its my 18th) and would LOVE a palm tree cake, have you any ideas as to how to go about this?
Please PM me if you would like to share any tips and I would genuinely LOVE to see your other cakes!!
Jess xx

Wow! Thank you guys for your lovely comments!

Jess, I have PM'ed you about your palm tree cake, hope it helps!

Ladysonja and Debrina, it usually takes me between about one-two weeks to do cakes like these. But that is not constant work, just evenings and Sundays!! I will often work from about 5 till 12 with a half hour-hour break or so each evening, but this will be at the max for the last 2-3 nights before the cake has to be finished, that's when I get a bit obsessive and perfectist about it! The sponge cakes are more difficalt to do compared to the fruit cakes because they have to be done more last minute so the cake does not dry out, fruit cakes can be iced weeks in advance!!

Balletbree, when I was younger, I used to struggle to cut my cakes (I still don't like it!!) I even did a couple of my competition cakes on polystyrene 'dummy' cake shapes so I didn't need to cut them!!

Thank you all again!

These are works of art - you should figure something that you could do that would last and last - but that would take away from your creativity wouldnt it>

What a beautiful bunch of cakes! My niece would love the horse cake for her 11th birthday. Anyway you could send it to me? Her birthday isn't until July. LOL If there is a place were you have photos of all your cakes, we would love to see them. At least I would anyway.

Wonderful job on them all! :) I especially like the white one with the flowers, did you make the flowers or were they real?
I would like to get into cake decorating and I have tried a couple but they take FOREVER and I am not terribly patient and the materials tend to be fairly expensive.
Please post more of your work! and maybe if you have time would you mind posting a guide of some sort for us beginners? ;)

Thank you guys so much!!!
You're all very sweet!

Pointedancer, the flowers on the white cake were made by me, it was the first time I had ever made daisies/gerbras, so that was interesting, but I was glad how they came out!

And I might try to put some sort of guide together for you guys to look at, if it would help!!

Thank you all again,

xxxxxx

Thank you all again for your lovely comments!!
You are all so sweet!

The figures are made out of a medium called flowerpaste, it is a bit like sugarpaste, roll out icing. But it is easier to mould, you can roll it really thin and it dries really hard so it's great to use!!

thank you again,
