Just curious what the majority of people are into. I do both and enjoy the benefits each has to offer. Of course if you do something else, please share as it is interesting to learn new things and try them out. Best wishes!

Which one is better? Yoga or Pilates. Or should you just do both, or will one or the other be okay? I prefer Yoga, but I just wanted to know.

I do both, I'm more of a yogi though, but it's not just an exercise program to me...it's a way of life. I use pilates simply as a supplement to my other activities, it's fun and more effective then crunches.

I like both, but I prefer pilates. I'll usually do a little bit before i dance to loosen me up. I save yoga for before i go to bed or when I need to wake up in the morning. I feel like i see the results i want faster with pilates.

Well,
I never really tried Yoga, but I'm not into this whole spirituality, so I'm afraid I wouldn't like it (although I do want to try that, as I'll start to instruct pilates, and I wanna know the background...).

I'm just totally addicted to Pilates, and I honestly think it's the perfect workout for almost anyone, and especially for dancers!!! :)

I did pilates after a very bad back injury...and it made it worse! It has totally put me off it unfortunately.
I now do a yoga DVD and it's great.

I do yoga and I teach yoga too. I have also done Pilates but I have to say that Pilates borrowed alot from Yoga. I have found yoga has done much more for my body than Pilates ever will. You should give it a try - yoga always stays challenging - especially if you do ashtanga yoga. Your abs will be sooooo good !

I like Yoga because it challenges my body but it is also relaxing. It's a time, for me, to just let my worries go...

I'm starting yoga next week. I'm really hoping it will help with flexibility and strength. I also have back and neck issues (too much computers :) and perhaps yoga is the answer.

I would love to try pilates too.

I prefer pilates though I have never tried yoga. I think pilates helpsto find mussels and learn how to use them. It also teaches you to dance from the inside out. It is also fun!

I have only tried Pilates once, and that was at a gym that isn't specialized in Pilates, so perhaps I'm not the best judge, but I just thought it was plain boring (hope no one feels offended - it's just my humble opinion). I guess I'm just more of an ashtanga kind of guy.

It depends on my mood really. Today I like yoga better, but some day this week I will definitely be in more of a pilates mood!

For me personally I've found that yoga helps my balence, but doesn't do much else for me. Pilates makes me stronger and more flexible. Both are helpful in their own ways.

I've never done pilates but have startted yoga this year (iyengar yoga). It absolutely changed me! I have had a period where i took class once a week but practised myself every day: after years of neck and back pains they were gone! I have even included some of the stretches (downward facing dog! I love it!) in my ballet classes and feel that they actualy go well together.
I haven't been keeping it up lately (holidays) and feel the stiffness in my body, I must start again soon, it's hard to start and keep it up (not loving that downward facing dog that much at this point)but once you do you are convinced you can't live without it!

I have taken both pilates and yoga. The yoga that I took was at a local place. I take pilates at the community college in my town, they have a pilates for dancers class that I find really helpful. For enjoyment purposes I prefer yoga, but for the benefits I would have to go with pilates. I found that the places that I really wanted to strengthen and strech were really worked better in pilates. I might have been in the wrong type of yoga class to get the benefits that I wanted, but that is my opinion.
