For those that care, the National Clogging Leaders Organization certifies clogging instructors - www.clog.org
And the Clogging Champions Of America offers a once a year judges training class (not really certification, but just the same) www.ccaclog.com |

thanks i was one that wanted info on it about a yr ago. I took an exam from a TX association dance co 3 yrs ago. and that certified me to teach in the studio but it's not enough to own/run a studio. i was hoping i could do some sort of summer course through a big co like dma or dea and do the exam for my certification. There's no such thing right? |

DMA and DEA both have summer programs. I'm not too familiar with how they run things, but if you contact them I'm sure they could answer your questions regarding their certification practices. |

Hi Damara,
I've never seen anything to certify a person to be a studio owner. The DMA certification is for teachers, it won't necessarily prepare you to own/run a studio, it will give you great teaching skills. It may be helpful to apprentice a studio owner. And as a side note, just about anyone can open a dance studio. You should have a background that is in at least one dance form and be a strong dancer and educator in that form. It's helpful too to have a good network of resources (lawyer friends, good insight, business knowledge, etc.) If your goal is to be a studio owner try Rhee Gold seminars. Another thing to note is that studio owners learn a lot through experiencing things first hand, you should be good with making financial decisions and certainly not a people pleaser . You could have certifications out the wazoo but without real life experience, it's just not the same. |

yeah i know. my wording wasn't right i guess. actually my certificate is from the studio acknowledging that i'm a teacher graduate. but its not enough to be qualified as the instructor that owns the studio. ppl expect to see that the owner is certfied through a well known company. i live in louisiana and my teacher (who is the studio owner and is certified through dea) gave me the oral and written exam from the tx dance co. i think she's always used this particular tx co to test her students in the past. if i find my booklet, i will tell you the exact name of this tx dance co. |

sobhd.org - world wide
sohda.com - world wide
batd.co.uk - branch of SOBHD
thesdta.com - branch of SOHDA
fusta.com - American
scotdancecanada.com - Canadian (more for competition purposes but does have informative links to Canadian Associations) |

Good work hun, but you forgot a few. There's BATD (orignally in UK but open for anyone). I'm from Canada and I have my BATD teachers and PACE, thats a new one. Either way though, goood job, tons of info here which will be helpful to many people. |

Wow, that's some amazing info there.
Just don't forget about the BATD (British Asssociation of Teachers of Dance) which I happen to be a part of for my jazz certification. |

You guys should include links to your organizations to expand the list. As I stated in my original post I'm sorry if I left out some programs, and feel free to keep adding to the list so everyone can benefit |

BATD is part of the SOBHD.
you can access the BATD web site at batd.co.uk
I'm from Canada too and that's what I am certified under.
In Canada, Highland dancers are either SDTA or BATD. Depending on the teacher you have your tests under. Both are branches of the SOBHD.
There is also the other governing body SOHDA. |

Hi everyone.
Im from a very small town and the dance teacher i had for years was never certified as far as I know. However I want to be!!! Im a certified coach through UDA but they dont do teacher certification I dont think.
But, I do have some questions. I don't know if i jsut dont ever read anything right or what but I look on all kinds of sites and it says certification by test.
When you guys got certified did you have to go to workshops and different states and everything. Its hard for me and the pocket book to travel to all these places that only offer it.
Is there such thing at all where you can get certification without having to travel? Just by the co. sending you the test?? I hope this doesnt sound completely silly but I am just wondering.
Anyone know anything about Dance Masters of America and how they work? Anyone certified through them ? How did ya do it if so??
thanks for your help, please reply as soon as you know something. its eating at me.
