Yes, they were suspended after the B-sample was positive. Means they were taken away their titles from WC and EC 2001, and could not compete for a year after the A-sample was taken. That's why Tamara Yerofeeva is 2001 World champion (beautiful, beautiful gymnast and the Ukrainian school.. adorable) and Ukraine is the team Champion.

I don't know.. But bessonova didn't even get to know that she was suspended, did she? And she only took some nosedrops which had only a small percentage of the forbidden drug in it.. Besides, they've may have a B-sample with much lower values or something? And i think they couldn't suspend Anna since the Ukr federation didn't get to know from the start (according to IH, I think I read this somewhere on Rsg.net..)

Yeah it was a very bizar story. They were told just before the Group Euros or Worlds (where Anna also participated that year) and she got suspended then but for March or so, so the suspention was already over by the time they found out.

And then the whole Moni debacle who took some medicin's with a forbidden substance but on doctor's prescription cause she was undergoing surgery or something or was ill in hospital can't remember.

I see...I also wondered why there ws such a difference in the length of their suspensions when I first knew about it but I never did find out till now...

I think that Irina Tchachtchina is not only one of the best gymnasts in the world, but I also think she is one of the most beautiful people in the world. She is gorgeous!

To answer the questions:

yes of course Irina Tchachina is from Russia, Omsk to be more precise.

secondly yes it's Svetlana Khorkina and no she was not pouting or anything just giving her opinion. I think she was quite happy with the silver after the Sydney disaster (which wasn't her fault). Her score in Athens on vault should've been higher though but she missed some steps on beam and floor and lost the gold by herself.

Yes it was furosemide and yes it's diuretic but that isn't the problem.

The problem is that it hides other doping products in your body. Not that they've taken other doping but it is possible and therefore it's on the forbidden list.

Furosemide can also help the gymnasts getting thinner in a very unhealthy way. If I decided, I would probably put it on the doping list because it destroys the body. It doesnt help to eat normal if you use diuretics.

I've always wondered why did they take that or how did it get in their food. For Alina ok she has a lot of weight issues. But Irina?? she has her weight very much under control.

The how and what and why never was really clear was it?

Hey Angie, thanks for your explanation. There's so much I didn't know about these drugs. I guess pressure from coach/others can make people do things that they wouldn't ordinarily think of. I guess we don't understand the full story and probably never will.

I don't really think Irina and Alina had a choice. I even wonder if they knew they were taking it. Cause I just know how down to earth Ira is and she would never do something like that if it was her own decision. Nor would Vera Shtelbaums pressure her to take it, she just doesn't need it anyway.
