Quick question:
For "hop23s", where do you put your foot while you 'hop'? (not the one you are hopping on, but the other foot). You said that the leg would be "up", but how up?
Is this the jig that is called the "Hop Jig"? The one that works to "Pop Goes the Weasel?" My friend/Irish teacher doesn't ever do (or teach) the Hop Jig, since it's never really done in my area. I've heard a bit about it, though, so if this is it then that's cool!
Thanks for your help!
Keep the class coming, I will attend!! | re: ˘´Irish Dance Class Beg˘´ en>fr fr>en By RattyPatty Comments: 4032, member since Mon Dec 29, 2003On Fri Jul 15, 2005 11:02 AM
Well where I am the light jig,is not the same as the hop jig,but the single jig is the same as the hop jig,
on a hop 2 3,If the hop is on the left foot, then your left foot is on the ground, and the right foot is vertical, and is usually placed on the knee ,or higher. But leg that is up,doesnt go the side,it stays right in front of the supporting leg,i will get a pictrue next class. | re: ˘´Irish Dance Class Beg˘´ en>fr fr>en By highlandlassie Comments: 2760, member since Wed Feb 18, 2004On Mon Jul 18, 2005 09:15 AM

The jig step is usually done in the light jig,we havent learned a full dance yet, just parts of the dance. | re: ˘´Irish Dance Class Beg˘´ en>fr fr>en By Maire Comments: 164, member since Fri Jun 10, 2005On Sat Jul 30, 2005 01:13 AM
I've worked virtually hard! I do real Irish dance and the for the jig step we go:
up, hop back, hop 1, 2, 3, 4 --repeatedly
when really it isn't quite like that! Heh Heh. Oo, this is sooo cool! | re: ˘´Irish Dance Class Beg˘´ en>fr fr>en By SeniorLady Comments: 7629, member since Sun Aug 24, 2003On Sun Jul 31, 2005 05:40 PM

dancerat - the drill you described sounds a lot like a drill we do with flutters (similar to this but we step w/ RF bringing our LF to our knee and doing 2 beats - hence the flutter part - then we step w/ LF and bring our RF up etc. etc. etc.)
SeniorLady's Super Basic Jig Step
Hop down, hop up, hop back 2,3,4
hop down, hop up, hop back 2,3,4
hop down, hop up, hop back 2,3,4
hop up, hop back, hop back 2,3,4
In "I-need-theory-darnit!" terms, the jig is something like this:
Hop LF pointing RF in font (hop down), hop LF bringing RF up above the knee (hop up), hop LF bringing RF behind (hop back), step LF in front (2), step RF behind (3), step LF in front (4). Repeat twice w/ LF and then break: hop LF bringing RF up above the knee (hop up), hop LF bringing RF behind (hop back), hop RF bringing LF behind (hop back), step RF in front (2), step LF behind (3), step RF in front (4). Repeat w/ LF.
If you think there's a mistake in there ... there might be. Irish dancing doesn't have theory because no one wants to sit around and type out dances like I just did. | re: ˘´Irish Dance Class Beg˘´ en>fr fr>en By Rosie Comments: 4056, member since Wed Jun 30, 2004On Mon Aug 08, 2005 04:21 PM
