I was a blue flame for 3 yrs, at nottingham we did the austin powers routine! But at Easter i left the blue flames because i just wasnt happy anymore and couldnt cope with coaching a squad that didnt want to learn so i joined the Ashton Angels. The pussycats are amazing! Are you a unicorn aswell?

hey, I saw that routine at nottingham last year, it was wicked!! we're entering dance this year, for the first time. we usually just do cheer, so that's really ecxciting! are you entering nationals? we're doing both future cheer and BCA, we did the london regional at future cheer, the spring floor is amazing!!
i don't think the unicorns actually exist anymore, but i didn't try out. 4 pussycats did though and got in :)

"oh by the way UCOtwistinBABE mate i didnt call cheerleaders jerks that was what happened after it got edited i called them b****y because you and tumblebug were getting so cut at each other and having this big fight"

I think you may have misunderstood, I wasn't 'cut' (whatever that means) with anyone. I gave UCOtwistinBabe a COMPLIMENT which she felt was not good enough for her toe touch. I then explained why I gave her that compliment. The entire discussion, not 'big fight', was constructive criticism. Any comments made by myself, were in no way b****y, but explanatory.

Yeah, we're doing FC (I LOVE andrea too, she's such a sweetheart!) and BCA, but unfortunately I'm on holiday at the end of July so I'm not gonna be there at Nottingham :(
What divisions are you entering? We're doing open all-girl elite at FC and open at BCA, plus dance at both. The squad I coach at (Cheering 4 Brum) are doing peewee novice, junior novice, junior dance and senior novice at BCA.
I'm soooo excited!!

Ashton angels are entering Snr Funk and i think either Jnr Pom or Jnr Funk (not sure) and we are doing dance at Prep, Peewee, Jnr and Snr level. Do you know Matt from crusaders? He fancies one of the Pussycats but i cant remember which! Hes going to kill me for telling you!

Hey this back and forth 'you are wrong i am right' (from a bunch of people) has been going on for ages! :) UCOtwistinBABE, thats a great great toe touch you have there and you know what's right and wrong with it - so that's cool. Everyone else's comments probably hurt because they made assumptions and don't know you. For me, I can get really heated up when people insult my friends EspeciallY if they have no clue about their character and stuff. I guess it's easy to tell that you're really passionate about cheer and your life (which is really great, because I think that passion is what can drive almost anyone to success in whatever, and well, abit of talent helps too ;) ) It just gets abit dangerous when everyone gets defensive of their own comments. There is an option to just 'ignore' a comment or not reply to it if you are uncomfortable with what someone types. Maybe just read it, think about it for a few minutes and if you're still feeling angry about it then maybe it's worth typing down. I suppose all performers/people who compete will always, always hear bad stuff about themselves - whether its jealousy, or someone who really knows what they are talking about. I get through it by practice or just escaping with my friends to get my mind off it. Friends are always willing to say 'thats not true!' and 'you're the best!' and heartwarming comments like that. I love my friends!
Hope I didn't overstep my boundaries on opinions and stuff. Oh, I really enjoy watching the dance segment of cheer competitions because you can see the versatility of all the super cheerleaders! Whee!

Oh no, sorry for posting twice. Just wanted to say we can't really control what other people say about us, we can just control our reactions or actions after that. So sorry for digging up this issue again, if it's supposed to be over.

i would kill to have a toe touch like yours...mine has been looking the same way (or worse) since i started cheering 8 years ago. i practiced like everyday for about an hour and my got to be level....and then i made varsity...quit practicing which made them worse and then i started practicing again to make myself better and they didnt...so i guess i didnt work hard enough did i? oh well...i think im going to hang up my uniform anyway.

ah, that sucks when you sort of hit a plateau (did i spell that right... haha i don't even care) i know exactly what you mean. my jumps stayed the same for a while just above level in my freshman year. but i stuck to it and kept busting my butt at practice and it takes some time, but it will improve. that's awesome that you spent an hour a day working on your jumps, and i don't want to sound rude or know it all, but for how long of a period were you doing that? because if it's just a week or two, it's not going to make a huge difference. trust me, it takes time. like i always say, "Rome wasn't built in a day," meaning be patient and keep working hard and good things will happen for you :)

It doesn't look that great. It looks like you have the same problem I do.
I usually toe touch with my non 180 middle splits present on a flat picture, instead of the legs extending to the sides. If you were to sit on a glass floor in middle splits, lean forward and have someone take a picture from below, that's exactly the picture you would have.

Work to getting your legs to extend to the side, not front!

dancers_rock if you're talking to katie (UCO) i think you're being not only ridiculously rude but completely bitter! Hyper extended toe touches CAN'T be to the sides, the ball and socket joints would dislocate. she has to have it slightly in front and rolled in the hips to get her legs that high. and would it matter if sitting in a straddle and laying on the floor is her exact same position in the air? it doesn't make it any less hard.

if you're going to come on a cheer board and criticise peoples skills (that they have worked SO HARD for), at least know what you're talking about. in a toetouch your legs are supposed to extend in front, certainly not straight out to the sides.

I think some of you are being very disrespectful to Dancers_Rock. Everyone has their own opinion and if she wishes to share it, that is allowed here at dance.net. Her post was not rude in any sense. She stated that she too has problems with the same issues and was assisting in giving advice.

Now that I have that said...time to address the issue.

UCO and most of you on this board, come from a different type of cheerleading then Dancers_Rock, and myself actually, come from. Around here, hyper extended toe touches are not taught, 180 degree ones are. In the dance world, and this is primarily a DANCE site, toe touches are taught this way (180 degrees) quite often. In my area, hyper extended toe touches are just not taught. I have tried voicing my input on them in all star programs around here and schools- they don't want anything to do with it. They want their cheerleaders to have a 180 degree toe touch. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone program has their own curriculum and their own standards. If you have been a member here for very long, you would notice that Dancers_Rock, is a very nice, friendly, helpful member who offers nothing but kindness and advice. She was only trying to help and nothing else. Please OPEN YOUR EYES to the diversity of sports and teaching methods.

UCO- I have already told you before that I think you toe touch rocks. That's the caliber of program you are in and its fantastic. From seeing Dancers_Rock around on the other boards I highly doubt she was trying to discredit you in any way. She was only trying to help based off the way she was taught at her studio.

I don't want to start an argument, or anything, because that was my opinion, and I am always entitled to my opinion, and in no way was it harsh or rude.

Anyways, if that is what it is supossed to look like...then I don't think it's a very 'attractive' toe touch. I guess I prefer the more 180degree looking toe touches than.

And, since that advice was not accepted, I suggest working on the form of your upper body. Also isn't a toe touch where your arms go towards your toes?
I might not be the most educated in the area of toe touches, but I know a wee bit, I have several problems with my own toe touches aswell.

no, your arms are not supposed to go towards your toes. the name might be toe touch, but the feet are extended behind the hands. also, since legs are slightly in front and rolled in, your arms would be incapable of forming a T, your legs would get in the way.

Either way, every place does not teach toe touches that way as I mentioned above. We teach arms in a T and legs at 180 degrees. We have had several professional organizations come in and do camps and they all have taught that way. I watched the Cheerleading World's on tv last night and I didn't see a single toe touch that looked like that. Most of them showed more flexibility, even if they were slightly hyper extended.
There is more then one 'right way' and you just need to accept that.

of course i accept there are different ways, much like i accept people do over stretches, scorpions and arabesques differently. the only reason i responded to this thread was to correct wrong advice given to katie.
