i have a competition on 21st june. i'm doing athletics: 100m sprint, 800m run, long jump and javelin. the only events i'm worried about are all of them exept javelin

100m sprint: i try to run all the way but i feel like i'm not going to make it. i got 17 seconds and i want to improve. i start off fast and toward the end i slow down. any tips?

800m run: i can't run all the way but i try to. i run out of breath easily. i try my best but i walk mostly half of it. my legs start to ache. any tips?

long jump: i can do it but i keep on going over the board. i start off fast and then slow down as i get to the board. as i land i fall back and i throw my arms up high but i still fall back. i keep on doing this. any tips?

i would like people to help me and give me any tips for any of these events which i have a problem with. who ever replys i would like to say thank you.

hey i have some tips for u. First off, if u want to improve on ur sprinting u have to practice on your strength training. Doing things like sprinting longer than 100 meters ar your top speed and then waiting a couple of minutes and doing it again will help. You should talk to your coach for more drills, but also being serious about the drills and never flaking out on them will greatly improve your time. Also its usually takes a longer period of time than what u have to improve your time by alot and hard trainging is required. For the long jump though, u can easily improve not scratching or falling backwards. When u r practicing or at the meet, u should go to right were the line is and run as fast as u can. A little ways off u should have a partner watching and counting each stride that u take. Have her mark where u take ur 10th stride. That should be were u start running for each jump. As long as u try and run the same speed each time and not double step not scratching should be easier. Plus if u think about it to much u will usually mess up. Also try leaning forward when u land it helps u keep balance or fall forward instead of back. Hope this helped!!!

Well all that I can say with the 100m sprint is that maybe you should try and do the 200m in a sprint and try to run it as fast as you can to get it where you are faster in the 100m. If you just increase the distance and try to keep the time that you are getting that should help.

I'm not to sure what to say about the long jump.

If you are already having problems running the 800m the best thing would be to either keep training and don't walk. If you can't run the whole thing jog at least. Work through the pain in your legs and try to through the breathing, unless you really really can't breath or if you have asthma. If it doesn't work then I guess that you could always drop the 800m.

Hope this works.

I think it would be great to hear updates about your meets.

Advice: Don't give up!!!! If you need to run extra drills after practice, do it. It will only help you.

100m: One misconception is to take short, quick steps....You need to take long strides!! Keep your knees up. You really should ask your coach for more drills...it is a lot easier shown then typed. There are a lot of drills you can do to help you have a quicker turnover and better strides. In the 100m there really should be no slowing down...it is not a long race...you should, like said earlier, run longer than the 100m to prepare. I know some people are against this, but you can wear weights in practice too. This will make the race seem much easier once you get to it.

800m: If you are walking during part of this race, you may not be in the right race. Are you quick at short distances? How do you do at the 400m mark? The 400m is a difficult race, but if you are not walking at that point...maybe you should practice to run that? It is a very quick and demanding race, but may fit you as a runner better?

I've never done long jump but I used to do triple jump and hitting the mark is key.

Do you have a mark where you start to run? If not start at the board and run as fast as you can and get someone to count 15 (or so) strides from the board and make that your mark. You can adjust it accordingly.

How long do you have to train? To gain speed for the 100m do strengh training, I would say DON'T run say 110m for your training because you will set a new pace and train yourself to run slower.

For the 800m do ladders. 30s running at 80% of your full speed then 30s light jog, then 45s running @ 80% then 30s light job. Notice the pattern? Move your running time up by 15s each time until 2min and keep the light jog pace @30s. And then back down to 30s! This is very challenging at first so try your hardest!

As for the sore legs, well when you are running make sure you have good form. Otherwise you just need to gain more strength (aka run more!!!). After you are done trainging jog 100m backwards, this will help reduce hamstring soreness tomorrow. AND to top it off, have a bath with half a cup of epsom salts (avaliable at drug/grocery store) and use plenty of Rub A535.

I hope I could help!
