We have a demerit/ merit system, for discipline. If your late you get 3 demerits, or one demerit for each piece of jewlery your wearing...etc.. and you have to work them off the day you recieve them doing eight 8 counts of kicks, or 100 crunches etc... But we just got a new director and our system is changing which I think is for the better, now they have to run a mile (4 laps around the track) for each demerit they recieve, and if you recieve 10 demerits in a week you can't perform that week. I was wondering what kind of discipline system does your team have?

I work with a colorguard. My girls get a grade. It counts as a class. So many tardies equal an un excused absence. 3 unexcused absences results in their grade dropping.

We had a merit/demerit system. We rarely physically worked them off though. Whenever a coach needed something cleaned or something done like that, you could work some demerits off. Merits were handed out for certain things like helping out, having missed material learned, getting forms in on time, etc. By the time the next performance rolled around, if you had any demerits, you weren't able to perform.

Well, If you miss one practice, you get kicked off. (unless there was an emergency, or something like that.)

We have the merit/demerit system as well. We have one week to work off the demerit once we get them. If a team member accumulates 15 demerits without working them off, they get kicked off. Officers get kicked off the line if they accumulate 10. We can work off demerits by kicking, running, or whatever the director feels like.

I'm not sure who thought up Pandora's Box, but that is what they are using right now. It really isn't very effective. Most of the girls don't care, because they already know what's in the box is lame. On my daughters team they have one girl who continually comes in late. She just does not care! It's too weak a discipline. Here is another lame approach at discipline. Your car breaks down and you have to be towed into town, and your child recieves a trip to Pandora's Box because they are late. Hello! Goof ball high school. :)

The director has talked about having the late person stand in the center of the rest of the team - while the rest of the team does something out of the box. Goof ball high school :)

Run. I say run. My daughter agrees. How many laps is it around a standard gym floor to equal a mile? Anybody know?

I like the running concept myself. High Kicks is good too.

^I think 20 laps around a gym is a mile.

We only have demerits, you can't work them off. If you get five, you're out for a week, 10 is three weeks, and fifteen is off the team. Demerits get erased after every trimester. IF you fail a six weeks in any class, you're out for 3 weeks, can't tryout for officer/social, and have to re-tryout for the team. If you fail again, you're off the team, and you can't re-tryout.

I'm actually going to mention that info to our drill advisor. Good advice.

Thanks
