I thought I'd share instructions to the Walls of Limerick, which is a progressive 4-hand dance that is normally the first figure learned by new beginners (it's dead easy!)
All you need to know in order to learn this dance is your 3s and 7s.
A. Advanced and Retire (8 bars)
Couples advance and retired by executing two 123s forward and two 123s backwards two times.
B. Change Sides (4 bars/4 bars)
a) Ladies dance the side step (7s) diagonally facing each other to finish in the opposite lady's place. All dance two 123s.
b) Gents dance the side step (7s) diagonally facing each other to finish in the opposite gent's place. All dance two 123s.
C. Down the Floor (8 bars)
Gents take the opposite lady's right hand. Couple dance the side step to the gent's right and finish w/ two 123s. Repeat to the gent's left.
D. Swing Around (8 bars)
I can't explain this because I'm an idiot. Dancers take both of their partner's hands and swing around the opposite couple (to meet w/ the next couple - hence the term "progressive dance"). 4 Replies to Instructions for the Walls of Limerick |

That is how you stand. You got the picture right! Hop 123 hop back 23. Hop 123 hop abck hop back 23. Cut 234567 (i think it is ladies first that does that) hop back 23 hop back 23. Cut 234567 (then gentelmen, but not too sure) hop abck 23 hop abck 23. Hop 123 223 323 423 523 623 723 823. (you criss cross your arms with your partner and do 123's in a circle.) And start again. Sorry if mine is hard to learn. I can't explain things well. But thats how I do it. |
