this one's actually better than the other one. my dad got it when he got the one of my full. this one's on a hard floor, not spring. i need to point my right foot more though, huh? it's stiff because that's the one i tore my achilles on and there's so much scar tissue in the back of it. 54 Replies to New/better toe touch |

hehe thanks! this sounds dorky, but i really like hearing that i'm an inspiration to someone. anyone can jump like that, just most people don't believe it's possible so they don't work at it... i don't think i would have quite as good of jumps as i do if it wasn't for matt mcgrath because he inspired me! |

Great jump! Just remember not to lean forward too much and to look up and smile! It always cheers up the jump! |

i've explained this TONS of times, but you don't hear this often, but when you roll your hips as extremely far as i do, you HAVE to lean forward of you'll fall on your back. sit on the floor and pretend you're doing a jump that high and see what happens when you don't lean forward. i was taught to do that. trust me, i've had some of the best coaches in the nation like shannon young. the reason you hear "never lean forward" is because normally people don't jump as high as i do. like coaching NCA staff camps they just say "never lean forward" when they explain it to the whole camp, but if they find an individual girl or guy who can jump like me, they will tell them to lean forward a little. thanks though. |

yeah, i'm always surprised to see how high people actually jump when you stop it in a photo. it doesn't look that high off the ground in real life! one person told me that they could probably walk under my pike lol!! |

I will be honest with you, I would rather see a not so high one without leaning forward. The leaning forward looks sloppy to me! Otherwise, you look great. No harm meant, jmo

and i will be honest with you, you have to lean forward a little when you roll your hips back because i'm MORE than sitting in that toe touch. ask any coach of a big time all-star gym that knows anything about it and they'll tell you that. |

Awesome jump! I know someone said it, but you seriously are an inspiration, I have a huge urge to run and practise like, now!
A couple of questions for you..
-How do you get such great height? Thats where my toe-touches let me down really, I can't get so high.
-I'm presuming you have oversplits, how far past splits can you go? I've heard you need to go, say 220 degrees oversplit if you want a 200 degree oversplit jump? i.e you have to be able to go further on the floor in order to get the same in the air. Does that make sense? Is it true?
-How often do you stretch, practise, train etc?
-How long did it take you to get your toe-touch that amazing?
-Are you a flyer, since that would look fab coming out of a basket toss!
-Any other help you can give me!?
You really are my new cheer-hero you know!
*one small comment, I can't tell since the photo is abit dark on your face, and you may be doing this already! But even though you have to lean forwards (and I heard the same as you, its the only way you can possibly do it), keep your head looking straight forwards. * |

thanks for all the lovely compliments! and yes, i've worked on keeping my head up. i didn't even realize i did that until we took those pictures. but that was a year ago this December. i need some new pics. oh, and i'm so glad that i'm not the only person who knows that if you hyper-extend that much that you actually have to lean forward!! i guess there aren't that many people who hyper-extend that much, so you just don't hear it often.
and for your questions...
-How do you get such great height? one word: strength. there's no other way. people will tell you it's flexibility, but imagine if i was standing on the ground with my feet that far apart. that wouldn't be a very good split. it's all strength. the best way to work the muscles you need to do that is just doing the jumps themselves, all the time, and as hard as you can every time! never slack off!
-I'm presuming you have oversplits, how far past splits can you go? i can't at all. i'm about 2 inches away from my center split and i never really stretch except for before practices. like i said, imagine if that jump was upside down and i was standing on the ground like that. that would actually be a bad split. my legs are hardly far apart at all.
-How often do you stretch, practise, train etc?i almost never stretch, but i practice ALL the time. my squad has two 3-4 hour practices, two 2 hour workouts, and we usually tumble on mondays every week. we're not jumping all of that time, but we're still building muscles.
-How long did it take you to get your toe-touch that amazing? i know everyone wants to hear "i learned that in a day" but it's just not true, for anyone! it took me years. i started cheering in 8th grade and i had already done gymnastics, so i had a decent, almost level toe touch. i always had the best jump on my squad, but it wasn't until the end of my sophomore year that my toe touch was unusually hyper-extended. it didn't get crazy hyper-extended until my senior year.
-Are you a flyer, since that would look fab coming out of a basket toss! yes and no. i base for regular stunts, but i fly in baskets. when i fly baskets it's usually just in the guy baskets so i can do double fulls (flipping kind) and stuff because it's easy for me since i can already do it on the floor.
basically, all i can tell you is practice all the time and jump your hardest, no matter how tired you are, even if you're just messing around with your friends or if you're at a competition or game. it really pays off in the long run. i never did any special stretches or exercises, just practice. |

I'v been looking at your pictures again today and I desided to accuse you for having wings or something! Or you are a puppet on a string and have someone pulling your string cus I can honestly not understand how you can jump and tumble so well, lol! ![:] :]](http://dancenet.s3.amazonaws.com/images/blue/emoticons/joy.gif) Sorry for the accusing, I just couldnt help myself |

Its true that you have to lean foward in order to get your jumps that high. One of the best guy jumpers that ive seen, Guy Burkett(whose also on my squad) has to lean foward slightly to get his jumps that high. He's the only guy to ever have beat Matt McGrath in individuals. One thing ive noticed with both of your toe touches is that you end up with a slightly low v motion with your arms when you jump. Does it just become necessary to have your arms in that position in order to get your legs that high (same thing as leaning foward maybe?)? just curious... |

i have seen one incredibley hyper extended jump with the arms in a T, but i'm pretty sure that requires not just strength but natual flexibility in the hips to allow the legs to extend far back enough for the arms not to be pushed out of the way |
re: New/better toe touch en>fr fr>en By UCOtwistinBABE Comments: 636, member since Mon May 16, 2005On Sun Nov 27, 2005 10:37 PM
oh yeah, i've heard of Guy. i don't know him personally though. about the T motion, you have to bring your T in a lot because if you don't, your legs will hit your arms and you won't be able to hyper-extend them. you have to do that to get your arms out of your legs' way basically. |

OMG, i'm so sick of saying this over and over. look how far apart my legs are. NOT VERY FAR. it's all strength. that's hardly a split at all! it's like if you sat down in a really small straddle on the ground and bent over forward. |
