House Ghetto House/Juken Veterans en>fr fr>en By Stone Comments: 26, member since Wed Aug 15, 2001On Mon Aug 29, 2005 11:02 PM
Is there anyone out there who is between the ages of 21 and 30 that still footworks and listens to Ghetto House/Juke music besides me. Am I the only within this age group that still has love for this and is still in good enough shape to do this? I just recently moved back to the suburbs of the CHI after spending years away at school down south. I get here expecting to go to the club and battle some folks and juke with some chiks around my age. So far I haven't had any luck. It seems as though I have to go to a high school party or a college night just to see some updated Chicago style footwork. Unfortunately i'm dog on 25 and I'm too old to be going to them parties anymore. I've been waiting years to come back home and party. This is frustrating and disappointing. Does anybody feel me on this. Is there anybody from the CHI, or its surrounding areas that understands what I'm talkin about and going through? Why can't Beatdown, Clownhouse, Playground, Out Of Cash, Street Floss, and the Ghetto Teknitions do something for the for-real Grown and Sexy folks of Footwork? Do we have to wait for Missy Elliot to make this thang commercial or somethin? Ya'll holler at me PLEASE! I can't be the only one feelin like this. 40 Replies to Ghetto House/Juken Veterans |

Description of JUKE en>fr fr>en By Stone Comments: 26, member since Wed Aug 15, 2001On Thu Sep 01, 2005 08:56 PM
Before I describe Juke I first have to explain its origin. Juke music is the more commercial version of Ghetto House music. Its tempo is usually a little slower than Ghetto House so more people are able to dance to it. Juke Music comes from Ghetto House and Ghetto House, ofcourse, comes from House Music.
Jukin is dancin hard and on impulse right with the beat. Jukin can also be sexual-I'm not talkin about soft and sensual but hard and ruff. Jukin consists of a lot of twurk moves and down south booty-shake moves like poppin and whippin done at a faster tempo. Chicago Footwork is Jukin but it is also a dance style all its own. The dance that you see done in the Lose Control Video by MISSY ELLIOT is actually basic footwork from around 1993-1994. I'm not knockin them cats that were performing it, cause they did represent and they did do a great job, but the Footwork of now is is more complex and has more combinations. An example of Juken was when the 4 little kids came on the stage near the end of the footwork routine of MISSY'S BET awards performance. Other example Juke moves are the Percolator(s) and Herky Jerk. Footwork and Juken have a way better effect when done to Ghetto House/Juke music. I suggest that you take a trip to Chicago and hit up a party on the South Side or the South Suburbs to get the REAL effect! I hoped this helps to answer your question. I tried my best to explain but it really is somethin that you have to see for yourself. PEACE.
One more bit of info before I go. Chicago Footwork isn't a trend dance such the Bank Head Bounce, Uptown Shake, Heel toe or ATL Stomp. It is a dance style that consists of multiple moves and really started around 1992, around the time the song "THE PERCOLATOR" and Ghetto House was born |

what ever happened to that raw feeling of dancing till 7 am sweating, and singing aand crying all that stuff. I just got back from NYC. I went to the shelter and you could tell it was an average night for the locals, but for me i danced for 5 hours straight. i spent $60 on water. It was off the hook. does anyone know how we can get this going everywhere? I'm in boston and it seems like everyone wants to hear tecno and break to it. not to knock em, but for those of you who know......what happened? |

Wut up Odie! Unfortunately I don't have any footage of myself on disk. However, I can tell you to check out jukezone.com and click on VIDEO then click on the first clip. It'll show you a segment of a Chicago style footwork battle.
I'm curious to see how it's goin down in San Franciso. Let me know of some things to check out. LATER ON MANN |

that doesnt sound like house to me. in fact the track in that clip sounds like it would be mixed with ragga jungle. fast footwork. |
re: Ghetto House/Juken Veterans en>fr fr>en By Stone Comments: 26, member since Wed Aug 15, 2001On Tue Sep 13, 2005 07:06 AM
Correct. It is Ghetto House/Juke Music. All the genres of music under house have a slight similarity because they all come from house-tekno, jungle, acid, ghetto tek, ghetto house juke music. Seek out more ghetto house/juke music and you will see that there is a difference between ghetto house/juke music and raga jungle. Go to jukezone.com, the'll play a track on the wesite-better yet, buy a CD. Then make your assessment. |

i didnt say it was ragga, i said it sounded like it could be MIX'd with it. sounds like a form of hip hop music to me, prob from the midwest or the south. thats my assessment
house music does not encompass all other "electronic music."
techno is completely different than house. everything from the sounds to the bpm. |

Mann, all I can say to you is start researching the beginings of HOUSE and then follow it up to when Teckno began so that you can see for yourself. Do searches on the Hot Mix 5, WBMX radio in Chicago, Frankie Knucles, and Farley Jack Master Funk for starters. You might even want to look up the song "Jack Your Body." |
Learning to Dance en>fr fr>en By Stone Comments: 26, member since Wed Aug 15, 2001On Sat Oct 01, 2005 09:49 PM
Whats hapnin LatinaSpice! Check it out, as long as you have rythm, the love for the music, and the desire to learn how to dance you CAN learn how to dance. As long as your body is still functioning right and you have all of your limbs its never too late. I reckomend taking some classes, mimickin the moves on music videos and Soul Train. Go to the club, and if you see some dude snappin pull him to the side and get him to teach you something. Girls can get free lessons like that. I know it works cause I've taught a good number of girls in the club.
You got cool points just for liking house music so just hit me up and I'll teach you some stuff. Parties would be more fun if more people knew how to dance-especially footwork. |

techno started in detroit buddy, thats why they have DEMF. house started in chicago. their sounds and tempo are different. this ghetto house and juken that you refer to sounds nothing like techno or house music. ill post this again for those of you who dont know about electronic music:

Hey buddy I know that House started in Chicago. I was born and raised in the Chi-Land area. I group up listening to House. And I know that Teckno was created in Detroit. What I'm trying to tell you is that House music came first and when it reached over to Detroit it inspired the creation of Teckno. There were certain elements of House that were used to create Teckno. |

im not super sure but house was started by two DJs, they were friends but one was from chicago and one was from new york so the sound was going on in both areas at the same time. I think they were Frankie Knuckles and David Mancuso. Paradise Garage and the Wherehouse. Dont quote me tho. |

Wus up yall, I finally got to a computer where the clip would play looks interesting theres a lot of heads in that circle looks out doors? I am always down to check some dancing out i'm not really use to the sound, but am open to checking new things out.
I dont think all electronic is suppose to sound the same tahts why they have different generes and techno is a shoot off from house even though it sounds pretty different well shhh all electronic is a shoot off from house, (i heard in detroit they have there own dance they do to techno). But you can argue that for days i mean Jamaicans were using keyboards to make DUB music in the 60's so now what hahaha but i dont think arguing about that helps anyone out. The fact that something is going down in chitown and dancing is being done is fresh and that theres a website and clips too see that culuture is also fresh.
peace

Wus up JackDaniels. Yo you are right about Frankie Knucles. He did his thing at the Wherehouse in Chicago. I'm not going to say that David Mancuso didn't have anything to do with the beginnings of House. From the information that I got from my older cousins and friends and from the research that I did on House music during my earlier college years, the creation of House music is mostly attributed to Frankie Knucles in Chicago but it isn't solely attributed to him. I researched it cause I was working on a paper for English and I didn't want to just go off of hear-say and guestimations. Out of all of the research that I did I didn't come across anything that argued against the origin of House music being in Chicago. |
