get her to do round off backhandspring set backwards onto a matt... to get the idea of keep going backwards
you can get her to try it, just make sure that she doesnt bring her arms down in between bckhndsprings, arms up and just keep going, try it on matts so she wont be as afraid, but other that that, just go for it... be sure to stress that backhandsprings need to have sets going backwards, as opposed to backtucks, which you set up for, if she sets up her form in the backhandspring'll be bad, and she'll kinda go in a circle
hope that helps! |

I find the easiest way to learn 2 or more back handsprings is to do one, then two little jumps, then a supported 2nd. Then reduce this to 1 jump. Finallly add the two together, making sure the second one is supported.
Once this is mastered I would strongly suggest some time is spent on 2 bh then a high dish jump, and then 2 bh high tuck jump to get the feeling of heels-to-toes.
Just out of intrest, how old is this girl, and how many hours a week does she train?
Hope this helps

She is 10 and trains 1 hour a week. She is very naturally gifted. She had an ugly RO BHS when she came to me last year. My first goal was clean it up...now pretty. She learned a RO back tuck in 6 weeks. Now we are working on connections. We started with RO BHS pause BHS. Now we are down to RO BHS slight hesitation BHS. Will get this connected then work on RO BHS BT. She is also learning side aeriel and only needs a slight touch to remind her when to pull her arms. We started these 2 weeks ago. She just gets everything I give her. Smaller stuff like walkovers, tinsika, valdez, and double person tricks she generally gets in 1 week. lol Its hard for the other kids in her class but they have learned not to take it to heart.
BTW they all practice at home too...They have a set of stuff (10 handstands, splits, push ups, sit ups, cartwheels, preps, round offs, etc.) they have their parents sign off on each day. If they have signatures for each day they get a 5 min private lesson pass. Once they have 15 min they get to stay after alone and get time 1 on 1. |

we use a drill (it sposed to be for teaching the snap down from roundoff to backflip/BHS but it could work for this too)
Handstand onto a little height (a small box or board) and heel drive down (to simulate landing) and rebound for starters, and then progress to BHS instead of rebound. |
