I think it is a great idea. I just hope people don't use it to confront the Anonymous poster about past issues.

For example, someone posts about smoking weed. Displays her age.

Later, that persons asks a question about sex and has people responding that considering her age she shouldn't be asking those questions.
I can also more mean words being exchanged when you partly know who is the OP.

I just feel a bit of the Anonymous part is a bit lost. I'm sure some people are happy about it though . I personally never used the Anonymous board (my grammar makes it hard for me to hide)

EDIT: Oh my god. I never realized this post was from 2001! I thought it was aimed at the Secrets board!

How did this thread get dragged up from the grave? Isn't there a "can't reply after so long" rule? Just curious: I found it bizarre that linh, the all knowing, would be using the old markup codes until I realized, this post is from when the old markup codes were still in effect.

Interesting conundrum.

There are several that have been drug up and floating around here aimlessly.

I just sent a note to the other mods and Linh to find out what this is all about.

It's a side-effect of the new "newsvote" system as you can see on the front page now. Since it piggybacks on "news"-type posts, some of the previous topics classified as "news" are getting pulled up. And as it turns out "news" never gets too old to reply to... I suspect there's something fairly ironic in that statement. These old news items will disappear off the front page once the system gets popular.

Anyway, the "anonymous users" referred to in this post are not the same as what's used on the secrets board. Basically, there used to be an option to post without even having a dance.net login, which isn't enabled now (and possibly quite broken). The rationale for showing IP addresses publicly doesn't really apply here.

That's all well and good until someone bounces or masks the IP addy. I do it all the time when I don't need tracking.
