ill try to do my best to help you so heres what i know.when you run for your leap bend your legs and get low to the ground. on the leaping part make sure you try to go up not forward, it works best if you have your splits all the way down too.
i use to have trouble with my back leg bending too.it took me a while to figure out what i was doing wrong. try to make sure your not tightening it while its bent, sounds strange i know , but thats what i use to do. also practice sitting in a pike and tightening your legs as hard as you can.

well i hope that helped,

This may sound weird but it helps me. Try really pointing your toes and pushing your legs up...sorry its kind of hard to understand but I hope it helped.

Try to get as high as possible.Leap coming off with your toe and get your legs into a split as much as you can. Keep practicing this and see what gives you most power for take-off(ex: from chasse-step run or just a few steps) Good Luck!

for the perfect split leap work on oversplits on a mat. Its alot easier to get a nice split in the air when you can do an oversplit on the ground. If you have access to a trampoline get some ankle weights and practise your split jumps on a trampoline or spring/beatboard. Do 10 or so on the spot on each leg. you can also practice doing your split leap up onto a box when you land on your front leg hold the back leg up. then from the other end of the box do a scissone down and hold the back leg up again.

Hey Aine!
A Fellow discoer here :D
But i have also been taught gym.

To get the perfect split leap you need to be good at splits, and then try over splits if you want yours to look like Lauren Mc's :O
her leaps are amazing.
There is a special technique, you need to kick your leg you want to be in front dont just let it go up. then let your back leg follow and land with slightly bent legs.
If you want any other Info PM me or we can have a chat on msn :D
love Lauren

Im just taking a random guess here Dee and saying that you need to make sure your brushing your front leg up and foward. If your flicking, bringing your thigh up and then flicking the leg theres alot less of a chance of getting a good split.

Practic landing on your front leg with your back leg still up (no matter how low it might be) and concentrate on landing with it higher every time before lifting it higher and holding for a couple of seconds. i found that eventually i lifed it higher in the air uncontously so that i could land on it. (that didnt make sense sory). Also think height and imagine you are in the air for an hour not a second, it worked for me although im not sure of the science behind it. My problem is that i dont ever look relaxed wen i jump, i ttense up a bit, and either lean forward or correct myself and lean too far back, pity u cant do leaps with just your legs.

Hi everyone:

Stupid question, but does "over split" mean when you do a split, you can put some stuff underneath both of your legs so your split is more than 180 degrees?? I am a beginner, so please help.

Many thanks,

panda
