You're ever so right. We dancers are way too critical about ourselves. Dance demands perfection, while no one's perfect, so it's hard. I know how I always feel fat, and when people tell me I lost weight and I look great, I know it's true in the regular world, but not enough for dance. Believe it or not, one of the reasons I don't wear my glasses in class (apart from the fact it's not too comfortable...), is that when I see myself in the mirror WELL, I hate the way I look and therefore don't dance well.

Your post is so smart, and I'll try to keep it in mind!!!

that was a wonderful post thank you! just the other day in gym class we had to do a bunch of short fitness tests having to do with various things, like flexibility, strength, endurance, power, etc. And the guys who were strong didn't have flexibility or endurance and the girls who were naturally flexible (not dancers) were weak...and then everyone was amazed that i passed every test and excelled at all of them. They were like "Wow! How often do you work out?" and my reply was "Never, I do something more difficult and more rewarding. I'm a dancer."

omg thank u so much for posting that! i just started dance last year and im on the competition team! im not the littlest person out there and sometimes i get discoraged because i cant do a perfect turn or a straight leap just yet but now that i read this i am doing a modern solo to amazing grace with much confidence this year! thanks for the help to get the courage to take the place i wanted on the team! god bless u balletgurl!
