Dance Net Ballet Theatre Is Dance.net Ballet Theatre active? What can we do to make it active again? en>fr fr>en By Armwarmer Comments: 3104, member since Fri May 20, 2005On Tue Nov 15, 2005 09:54 AM
I was just wondering if this board can be made active again. It looks really interesting, and I'd like to be a part of it.
What can I do to help?

I've been checking every day but nothing is every new. If you want to take charge and PM some people go right ahead.

I think I will! Thanks for that. I just didn't want to butt in and be all bossy.

Well we were going to do a production of The Dream, and it is cast and everything. I have the music for my parts and have been working on the choreo. DejaDerange (Marian) was in charge, a while ago she postedt that was busy, but later she said she'd like to start things up again.. I'm not sure now. I think someone should PM her, but that was the last I knew. |

Last summer I choreographed all the pas de deux scenes for The Dream and put them on posts authored by DejaDerange (Marian). See her posts below this one. I think she made a real effort to put together The Dream, but I never saw any choreography posted for the ballet dancing portions (although Marian posted some basic guidance choreography for the whole ballet, from which I built up my pas scenes). I think people who were supposed to choreo these parts ran out of time and never got to it.
In my opinion, anyone signing up to provide choreography, costumes, props, etc. (all virtual) for another virtual ballet need to totally understand the time it will take to participate, and sign up only if they really feel they'll have the time. I also think PM-ing DejaDerange to ask her why The Dream never got off the ground (although she tried) would shed light on the problems, which a leader could try to avoid.
I don't have time to lead the putting together of a virtual ballet, but I will write any pas de deux choreography for one.
I imagine it would take lots of time to lead the creation of a virtual ballet. Ask Marian.
I'll be periodically checking this Dance Net Ballet Theatre forum to see if anything gets started, as apparantly other people above have also been doing.
xodncnblondi, about signing up...if anyone puts a post under this Dance Net Ballet Theater forum asking for people to work on a virtual ballet, anyone interested would sign up on that thread. (Again, I caution anyone considering to sign up for such a project, to make reasonably sure you'll have time for it.)

^ Rick is now my hero.
You need to be VERY careful when you start working on a project like this. It is far more work than it appears. Be careful also because if you (like me) have something like exams coming up, you'll need a ton of time to study and such. Plan ahead, and plan carefully.
Rick and I did a lot of work last summer... and even with all we did, we didn't end up with a ballet. It can be frustrating, because the effort is collaborative and other people don't always hold up their end. I tried to email music files to some of the choreographers, but I got error messages back. Thus, all the choreo which we had was the PDD scenes that rick did.
I think the best way to approach this would be to continue to do the dream. You can look at the outlines to see what our general idea for the ballet was, and fill in choreo as needed. That way, the work done before won't be wasted, and you won't have as much to do this time round.
Best of luck to y'all. Hope you can accomplish what I didn't.

PS-- I almost forgot! You might want to elect a head. I'm the head right now, but clearly not doing my job. If you want a recommendation, I would say put Rick in charge. If I remember correctly, he can only do work on the weekends, but he does a good job and he's dedicated. If it's ok, I'd just name him head. If you would prefer nominations and elections, go right ahead with that too. Heck, if you want to do a communist or socialist DNBT with no head and all work spread evenly, you can do that too. |

I appreciate Marian (DejaDerange) for all the work she did last summer in trying to lead development of the virtual ballet The Dream. She is also my hero (see her comment above). And her confidence that I could lead this effort makes me feel appreciated. However I don't have time to lead an effort, but would have time to choreo new pas de deux scenes for any new virtual ballets.
Marian's extensive overall choreography, and my detailed pas de deux scenes, for The Dream, are already on her several posts under this Dance Net Ballet Theatre forum, if anyone wanted to lead this effort. However, as I cautioned in my comments above, heading this effort would take lots of time, and even signing up to do the ballet scenes choreo, costumes, props, etc., would take lots of time...which is why I think last summer's effort failed - people didn't realize how much time it would take, and ran out of time.

^ I understand what you're saying. Just so anyone who reads this post knows, I did receive the music from Marian, and have choreographed with what she gave me. I can post it anytime, I just wasn't clear if the Dream was still an active production. |

chachaballerina,
Hey, it's neat that someone developed some ballet choreography for The Dream (I did the pas de deux choreo). Unfortunately The Dream is not an active production, but I would like to see your choreographed materials. Maybe you could post your choreo into the threads Marian set up within this Dance Net Ballet Theatre forum: she set one up for Scene 1, another for Scenes 2-4, another for Scenes 5-8, and another for the finale. I posted my pas de deux choreo into these same threads.
I don't expect your and my choreography will start up this production - to do so would take someone leading the effort. But at least some of the choreo will be on the threads for people to look at.
