Comp Talk Hip hop, should it really be competitive ? en>fr fr>en By butters Comments: 216, member since Tue Feb 22, 2005On Sat Nov 19, 2005 06:47 PM
So pretty much, do you think hip hop routines should be a category for competition? I mean, yea it's fun (if you're good at it) but, it isn't very impressive. I'm not talking about funk, funk is pretty crazy. but hip hop, how do you even judge that? I know, there's specific requirements, like any other dance category. But, basically it doesn't take any formal dance training. Hip hop is free stlye, performance level, but not something to be critiqued and scored on. Maybe, i'm wrong. Maybe, my whole view on the hip hop category of competition is distorted. But, i have yet to see one team that has kept my attention, and made me really think they're good. I've mostly seen girls who, yes, can bust a move, but not looked good as a team. Or, a bunch of barbie-like (meaning: they are stiff like barbie)girls who can't even shake it. I may sound a little harsh, but I'm tired of seeing wannabe's, u know, just plain tired of seeing bad hip hop teams.
What do you think? Am I flying solo on this one? Please don't send me hate mail-lol PEACE 4 Replies to Hip hop, should it really be competitive ? |

I understand where you are coming from.
HOWEVER - You have to take in consideration the difference between studio HipHop and REAL HipHop.
Studio SHOULD be competitive because there is a certain technique that is generally accepted for that just like Jazz or Ballet.
REAL though should not because while there is a certain technique,it is ALWAYS being adjusted and such.
Understand? |

I'm not talking about Studio, that's a whole other realm. I'm talking about like school teams. |

I understand that you are talking about school teams - But there is still the division between Studio HipHop and REAL HipHop...Schools can do either one. |
