I asked that question also by myself!!!
And by my own experience this was my way to get to that position (it took me about half a year)
First of all you need the flexibility to bring your leg up there with the help of your hands...
than you just pull in your leg with your hands and let your hands go and try to hold your leg up there for about a minute(dont panic if it's only 95° instead of 180° because that was also with me in the beginning and know I can almost hold it at 180°!!!)
just do this a few times a day at every side and with each leg and work on your flexibility as in oversplits its weard but the flexibler the higher the leg!
the second thing I did was lying my leg at something as high as a table and pulled my leg up without holding on on something with the hands

I would say just practice because PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!!
I will send you a foto of me but not know because I need to makeone firts and know I am in my pyjamas so :d

I hope you understand my explanation because I am from belgium and don't speak english ;) but I did my best!
I don't know that this is the way to get your leg up there but this was the way how I did it and it worked for me!

greets and many hours of stretch and muscle training! ;)

barsoukova has the best i've seen with no hands - this picture is just over 180 but i also have a poster which shows a bit more split than this

Hi everyone

We are new to this - with my daughter just having
joined rhythmic gymnastics recently - the move you
are talking about there are lots of disco dancers
so can perform this - and do so in there solos its
very effective on the floor, unfortuately my daughter
cannot do this but can hold her leg in this position
as can most disco dancers.

Any more information you could give us for her to do
this without hands would be really helpfull
