What specifically do you need help on? I would be happy to help, but there is so many points to spinning that i would know where to start. So if you have any questions feel free to ask me. |

You can get a DVD or Video of basics from places like FJM or Band Shoppe. As for equipment, I would sew my own practice flag out of poly china silk, poles from FJM are only about 8 dollars, and rifles some schools have old practice rifles that you can buy back but other than that see if one of the old members has one you can use. Good Luck. |

if you grab the pole and flag exactly or close to where you grabbed it the time before it shouldnt roll up. |

Press your thumbs on the pole when you grab instead of wrapping them around the pole.......should help. |

I used to have the same problem with my silk rolling and I found out that it helps if you like rotate your wristes while you hold the silk with your thumb. I can't really decribe it but I just rotate my wristes. |

the cheapest place for guard equiptment is at marchingworld.com
as for tips, practice, um when you toss the rifle grip it really hard before you let go, that prevents it from rotating in the air, like not spinning but flipping. |

Having your silk roll up on you is a common problem for beginners. What I find helps is to try to keep your palms facing you as you spin. If you are rotating your wrists so the palms of your hands face away from you on the down count and then toward you again when the flag is up, that is why it is rolling up. What also helps this is trying to keep your spinning below your waist level, not at your chest which is also a common beginner mistake. I hope this helps. |

when you practice try putting your thumbs up(instead of rapping them all the way around making a closed fist)I had this problem when I first started...I positioned my hands so they were at the tape, like right at the edge of the silk and put my thumbs up so they were along the seem. its sort of hard to explain but hope I helped!! |

You do realize that putting your thumb up the pole is improper technique, right? Thumbs aren't supposed to be seen. Ever. If your flag is rolling up, just don't hold it so tightly. It will unroll itself if you don't hang onto it like it's trying to get away. No thumbs!! |
