I've always wondered why we had to use the stiff "board" ones and not the white cloth ones.

I know of a girl who always wore a dark hornpipe hat, she is a great dancer and ALWAYS placed highly so I guess they are legal.

I have only seen one dancer wear a dark hornpipe hat in 13 years of attending competitions, so it definitely stands out.

I think the reason we DONT wear the cloth hats is because they are not from the British isles. Uhhhhh the cloth hats were an American invention, and I do not think they would look as nice

around here i find that most dancers have navy costumes and the white hats set it off and give more balance i find. i think a white costume with a navy hat would look really good too. i think they should be oposite. but your right ive only seen one or two (max) navy hats.

I like the white hats. i think the dark ones are so ugly and weird.

i have seen people with both.i think it's opptional.if you can find a navy one good to ya;)
