Thank you so much for your suggestions. I will definitely keep them in mind when choosing the velvet. I just wish I could see it all together. I guess that's where I am gonna have to get creative. lol I will probably do a vest in one colour and a jacket in another so that we have a couple of options. I will post a photo of it when its all said and done.

Hi! I just finished this set and it is so lovely and such an intersting tartan I thought I should post it. It is Dress Muted Blue Stewart. This set for a very fair haired youngster, is very pretty in blue with silver, but I could also see this on a mature dancer in brown or blue with gold trim, or on a male dancer with blue or brown eyes. The brown has a bit of red to it so it is very nice.

Here is some help for the broken links from 2005.cowalgathering.co.uk . . .
It appears cowal changed there web addresses to these photos, here is a solution.

Click on the broken link(it'll bring you to a page that says something like address not found.)

If you look in the web browser where you type web addresses it should say something like this.....

2005.cowalgathering.co.uk/gallery/viewImage.asp?imageID=359&catID=32
(I took out the http:// so it doesn't automatically make it into a link)

All you have to do if replace the cowalgathering part with chgmedia so it will look like this...

2005.chgmedia.co.uk/gallery/viewImage.asp?imageID=359&catID=32
(again without the http://)

This only works for the Cowal picture of 2005(and If there are pictures from 2006, 2007, 2008 etc.) It won't work for 2004 pictures because right now(March 2, 2009) Cowal website doesn't have those picture anymore. They might add them later, one day... maybe.

I hope that helps...

(By the way this example is of the Dress Red Crieff picture.)

For HighlandHeart ...

I'm not sure if this is the tartan your looking for because I don't know if there is a Special Dress Royal Scott and a Special Dress Blue Scott.(Two blue tartans one darker then the other). To me the tartan in this picture looks lighter then royal, but maybe it is the tartan you're looking for so I figured I'd post it anyways. (I can't compare it with marg's because every thime I try to go to that website it doesn't work and I have to restart my internet.)

Even if it is Special Dress Blue Scott and not Royal, it could help someone....

That's the blue scott - there is a new royal scott out there, I have a swatch of the fabric, but have yet to see it made into an outfit.
Thanks for the pic :)

Feb.4, 2009 page 5 of this Compendium of Tartans has a working link to Cowal Media.
This is the original link as used earlier in this thread.

Thanks for telling me ... you try to be helpful and someone already did it, then you just feel awful when you post repeated info... I guess I have to search these boards much harder then I have been(and I have been, I guess I always skip to the post the already mentions it). Sorry for the post(and for this on too).

At Booverly's suggestion I am cross-posting this picture here because it is a good picture of several different tartans. I think the tartans are
165- Dress Earl of St Andrews
164- Dress Cerise Special Menzies
157- Dress Purple MacPherson
182- Special Dress Blue Scott
178- Dress Red McKellar
183- Dress Royal Cunningham
166- Dress Lavender Longniddry

Here is MacDonald of Clanranald made into a kilt.

Image hotlink - 'http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd282/J_Ko_1966/Kilt002.jpg'

Here is Dress MacDonald made into an Aboyne. Notice how the different coloured waistcoats bring out the different colours in the tartan.

Hi, Nikki,

Love your photo of your daughter in her fuschia menzies. My daughter has just gone into the same kilt, but I was wondering where you got the matching velvet from. I got some velvet but it is the wrong shade. I cannot seem to find any in the world. We are in NZ. The kilt came with a black vest, but Laura is only 8, so want to keep her in a colour for as long as poss. Please help
Thank you
Claire
