Again..I do not like it at all! We are talking in this post about two different material...I have the rubber roofing not the PVC pan liner. It is not so much the scuff marks but like was said, it leaves black on everything. I have used several different cleaning products but can't seem to find anything that keeps it looking nice. It shows every footprint. Mine even came with a big silver streak of something across it. I wish I would have gotten something else.

I'm with you! I pulled mine up and gave it away(Rubber). I just got a sample of the Shower pan liner. I looks like it would stick like the rubber. My kids hated the rubber!

We do lots of tap. I think I am going with wood. We have 800 square feet. One of my dads owns a lumber yard. He is getting good hard wood that we have to finish. With all materials he is charging $2500. We've got 2 dads that are contracters and are going to take some off their dance bill to install, plus my husband. This price includes all of the materials. The best part is he is giving me 2-3 years to pay it off! I'm scared about this debt, but with tap, it is really hard to find a good floor!

Ok...I guess I'm not really "scared" about the debt, but don't like any debt. Hee Hee.

hey guys, we have the rubber roofing material and have had no problems with it. It does show the tap scuffs but that doesn't bother me at all. We use mop and glow (the squirt bottle) to clean it and do not use water. We clean our floor once a week. We have NEVER had black marks on bottoms or hands of our students. We purchased our rubber roofing material from a roofing supply house and maybe we purchased something thicker than what you are using. It's great stuff!

We are using the PVC Liner and have not had any problems at all. It tends to get scuffed by the taps but it does not slip and the dancers do not get dirty. My last studio had a wood floor and we struggled to keep it clean. I used every type of cleaner you can imagine that was referred by janitorial supply houses and my dancers came away with black all over them I am relieved to be through with the wood. Remember, whatever expense you put into a wood floor you will not recover if you move your studio. I invested almost $3000 and had to leave it behind when I moved. :( It is a plus I guess if you own your building and is does look very nice when clean, but like I said, my dancers would touch their sweaty faces and have black streaks all over their faces, tights, etc.... would like to hear more input on this flooring issue....

I have a wood floor which we tap on alot. My rhythm tappers tend to put some pretty serious dents and dings in it, but I have refinished it only one time in three years, so that's not too bad! We put polyurethane over it... the first guys who did it for me appeared to "pour" the poly on and spread it around... then it had to dry for about 5 days, but it worked REALLY well. When I refinished it myself, I had to sand it down (with a machine!) and then we painted 3 coats of poly over the top... the POURING method seemed to work better than the PAINTING method and last longer! Good luck!

I have used mop n glo and it looks good until we actually dance on it. What thickness of the rubber roofing have people bought? Mine is the 40 mil. I gave out new ballet shoes last class and by the end of class the bottoms and toes of the shoes were black. I got mine from a roofing dealer as well. I am going to try taping it down for now and see if we can make it through this year and save up for something else. I just don't know at this point what I want to save up for. I found that I have some leaks in the roof so I might use the rubber roofing to fix the roof and get a real floor!

over concrete, you need to build a sub-floor.

I got my real wood floor and it is awesome!! The kids love it! It costs about $2500 for materials and some labor was free and some dads are trading for dance.

To summarize this thread, flooring options are :-
a. Shower PVC pan liner 40 mil
b. PVC roofing
c. rubber roofing

Rubber roofing may leave black marks and may be too sticky for some moves.
PVC gets scuffed by tap shoes.
So, in summary, is PVC better than rubber if one is doing slides and spins ?? Or wearing latin heels ?
And, with PVC, is the pan liner or PVC roofing the better option ?
I wish I could post a poll to see how people were agreeing.
On another thread I saw DriCore as an option, but its not available outside US and Canada. I live in Australia :(

I have used this flooring in a small studio in my home with no problem. It was a little tacky at first. But a little dust on it actually made it perfect. No slip, turns were easy, good sound over wood (I teach Irish). But, I just had some put down at a studio I rent to protect their flooring and the fumes are terrible. I don't know what to do. Cancel class? I don't want the kids breathing this stuff in (nor me!). The studio must not be well-ventilated as it is part of a larger gym. Never had this issue at my house. I think it heats up in the studio and the fumes get worse. What have you all done about the fumes? Thanks.

Here's my take on this flooring. I bought a piece around 10 feet by 6 feet and put it down on my floor to see if I would like how it laid down. This is the PVC Shower Liner. We have had some students dance on it during class time (tap, ballet, etc) It has been down for approximately three months. It has completely flattened out, does not give at all, does not slide around and does not wrinkle when you turn on it. I am pretty impressed with it. I will tell you this, it is very similar, however, smaller in thickness to what they line garages with. I have been online comparing garage flooring which is twice the price and I don't need something that will take the heat of tires driving on it! Rubber roofing is chemical based and I don't feel this is the safest for health reasons. I cannot afford to put a professional floor in my studio. My student base does not bring in the dollars as much as I would love to be able to have one. I am going to use the PVC for my entire 3000 square foot dance area installing it during the summer so it has the entire summer to flatten and be ready to go for our fall season. Any input is appreciated
