Just wondering if anyone has tried the rubber roofing? Does it hold up well? Can you tap on it? I am looking for a multipurpose dance floor. I would love to find an inexpensive version, but would hate to waste the money. Any feedback would be amazing.
Thanks to all of you awesome Dance Teachers!

I got a sample of the rubber roofing, and did not like it. It had way to much grip, and lots of ridges in it. However, I think what I got might not be what people have recommended on here, as it was truly rubber roofing, and I think you are supposed to look for PVC roofing. I just couldn't find anyone who knew what that was. I went with the PVC shower pan liner and so far, so good!

Just had a question for all of you that used the PVC Shower Pan Liner! How did you install it. My room is approximately 700 sq feet. I'm trying to figure out if I want to completely sand it down and re-poly it and it would be back to wood floors (big messy annoying job) or Put down the pan liner (which could also be messy but i have no idea)? How did you guys to it, was it a pain? Please let me know, thank you so much!

I've installed it for the intended purposes and I've used a latex based adhesive that you use a notched trowel to spread the adhesive over the floor and then roll the liner on the floor. For larger areas you can use a weighted floor roller to get out the bubbles that may form.
You can also use a contact adhesive but they are flammable and needs lots of ventilation. Either way you need to wear long sleeves and pants as the adhesive sticks to everything and rolling latex off any hair covered areas is not too comfortable.

I have had shower pan liner down in one of may studios for 5 years I like it. The dancers thought it was harder to turn on than wood but now they love it I think it made thier turns better.

It seems like there are some discrepancies as I have been reading through this- I am especially interested in the Shower Pan Lining.

Some sources say that the PVC Shower Pan lining stinks or needs an off-gassing period.

Some sources say that they have no problems with their Shower Pan Liner.

Can anyone who has tested or installed this type of flooring post what brand and source they got their Shower Pan Liner from?

I just installed my shower pan liner and it's a big hit with my students. It isn't as slick as our other dance floor but they're excited because they know it will make them stronger.

I ordered mine from a local plumbing supply company (it's much cheaper this way!). The only comment i've gotten about the smell-which after airing out for a couple days, isn't really there any more-is that it smells like new.

All in all I really like it and it's held up for Pointe & Tap well so far.

You should go to stage step flooring , I bought from them and it is about the same price as what you are looking at for pan flooring. And it is for dance floors.

I just bought the Oatey PVC Shower pan liner from Home Depot, and the first 30 feet or so of each roll is great, but.....the last half of each roll, you can see the printing from the back of the liner on the top of the liner....looks like the ink from the back has bled right through the liner!!! I'm so frustrated!! Has anyone else had this issue with the liner, and if so, did you find a solution? I'm not sure what I'm going to do now!! Also, the color of the liner, from roll to roll is a slightly different shade of grey?? I was so excited about this floor, and now I feel like I'm back at square one!!

ballet_arlington, do you know what brand or manufacturer your pan liner is? I know you said local plumbing company, but there seems to be some variation.

Thank you!

I had the shower pan liner in my home studio with no smell issues. I had bought it in sheets though so I remember I threw it in the dryer to warm up to flatten out. The odor/fumes were really strong but then it was fine. When we got a whole role for the studio, the fumes were too strong for the closed up studio we use. It gave us headaches etc. and wasn't safe. Part of the problem was that it was rolled up in between classes so off-gassing would take a long time. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Stagestep Super bravo because even though it is also vinyl, it was going to be used for the intended use; unlike the shower pan liner. Looking at the material safety data sheet and the problems associated with vinyl off-gas, it is toxic and causes a lot of problems. There was no way I was going to take on that sort of liability because if someone experienced a problem, they could come back to me years later and say that I used flooring not specified for dance and I would be screwed. So....my personal experience? I would just get the stagestep. If I had to use the shower pan liner, I would put it out in the hot sun for a few days first.

^^^ I bought from Stagestep several years ago, by waiting for their annual clearance sale (about 1/3 less.) They were selling odd lots, from the leftover ends of their huge vinyl rolls. Where pieces were too short, I patched them together with tape, but mostly the rolls I bought were long enough that my studio didn't look like a patchwork quilt.

Oatey is the brand for shower pan liner. Eire - you are not going to be happy with shower pan liner and hardshoes. I got a piece and destroyed it myself in my hardshoes. Not worth it. perhaps not bad for shows, but as a studio floor that will be used every day, no. I have Harlequin Cascade.

I don't see it now, just call them they will let you know what they have left. I love the super Bravo, but I don't do tap you might want to go with something a little thicker if you do tap.

I'm actually going to purchase the Rave flooring by StageStep on Monday. I'm interested in the Tan because it's such a unique, warm color. Anybody try it?

If you haven't already call and get samples sent to you, that flooring is a lighter weight with a soft backing. What type of studio do you have ?
