What's the captians role? en>fr fr>en

I'm going to be a captian on my team next year, and there are several problems involving our coaching staff. When i along with the other girl who will be a captian go to adress our coaches about the issues we have with the team, i want to be able to tell them what we think our role as captains should be. Our captains in the past have never done anything, not even run practices, our coaches tell us what to do, which blocks team bonding and creates MASS PROBLEMS! So, my question is what should or does a captian do? Not the qualifications of a captian, but what do they do? Run practice, make decisions, etc? I don't want to seem unreasonable when it comes to asking for more responseablities, i want to be able to say these are the things that other captains do, and i think it will solve many of our problems. Thank you to anyone who can help.

Well, on MY dance/pom team, me and my best friend are captains, and this is kinda how we do it, even though I know other teams to it totally different.

*We don't run practices. If our coach is going to be like fifteen minutes late, we start warmups and stretching, but we don't do practices.

*Because our coach is new this year, we help her out a lot with reminding her to do things, like "make sure you give out flyers about our clinics" or "we have to practice on the football feild too!

*keep the girls CALM during games and COMPETITIONS. Many times our coach isn't there with us and the newer girls freak out. Especially at competitions, there HAS to be one of the two captains with the girls (the other one is nomally off trying to find out where to go). Make sure they stretch and warmup

*Again, since our coach is new, we are a real support for her. Many times, if she is having problems with a girl, we are too and the three of us will talk about it. If she gets really mad, we are the two who pretty much sits everyone down and tells them to knock it off.

*Generally, we are responsible for getting flowers (for the end of the year) and gifts and whatnot. Everyone pitches in, we just have to go get it and buy it ect.

*LISTEN to the girls. Based on my previous years on the team (not as a captain) I didn't think it was a big deall, but a lot of the times, it is stressful. In the first three months, about five girls came to one of us and telling us there problems with other girls, the coach or just in general, so listen.

That's all I can think of; just be sure to be a sister to EVERY girl. Even if NO ONE on the team likes someone, it is your job to be nice and a friend to that person (big one on my team!) Good lUck!

Aside from what has already been said, on my team, the captains ahve sort of the "SPIRIT!!!" role on the team. They make decorations for lockers during state, they plan team bonding nights (Like a sleepover, or a pool party, or a grillout..whatever).
