If the students are really youg, even doing as much as walking on tip-toes in circles, lines, zig zags across the floor will help them to balance. If for older students, developes as a warmup in center are good. And don't forget the sit-ups! You need your abs for core strength!

Is that what you were wanting for a response or did you want like a specific choreographed excersize?

Have the dancers walk across the dance floor balancing a beanbag on their heads. Have them imagine that they are gymnasts walking
on a balance beam and or a trapeeze artist walking on the high wire. The little dancers will have fun as they are working on balance. I hope I helped you out.

thanks missdancediva! do you think if I have them do a freeze game and make balanced poses when ever the music stops and then make it harder by using levels and then making them get on the floor and try to balance w/o arms

I'm sure that would work. One time at my elementary school we had a balance contest. We had to stand on one leg for as long as we could and follow exactly what the instructor told us to do. (She would move her leg through first, second , third, retire, and other more awkward poses) That could work too, you can do it to music and give a prize to the last standing.

dancerluv,
Yes, I do think that stopping the music and have them balance would owrk also. You could have do a pique to a passe with arms in 5th position and hold for a few minutes and then have do it with the other leg. If you have any other questions just post.
