Oh gosh, how long will you take to recover Sakura? And no worries, you'll make it to intermediate someday, its really not that hard, you can just take grade 5, inter-foundation, then inter. I think it wouldn't be too hard for an adult, even without background =) Keep working hard!

And Whee! My teacher seems to be comfortable with me attending her advance classes so I've got 8 dance classes a week now =) I'm so happy! lalala. Haha sorry I'm nuts ... =X

Hi all. Although my account here is new, I've actually been lurking around for some time, before I finally decided to sign up and post (when I saw that bubbblebran studies under the same teacher as I did). I'm a former ballet student who dropped out about four years ago due to medical problems. Not being able to dance has not diminished my passion for it, but if possible, it has increased. You never know what you've got til you've lost it. If I can find time for it, and more importantly if I can physically dance again (which I don't think I can), I would definitely re-take up Ballet.

Name: Sue
Age: 18
Gender: F

(note that information here was when I was still doing ballet)
Number and Type of dance classes taken: Ballet
Name of teachers: Ms Rosalind Ong
Name of studio/place: Tampines West CC
Level or Grade of Class: RAD Grade 5

How long have you been dancing?: Started at the age of 4 or 5 I think, stopped, then took it up again when I was much older, then stopped due to medical reasons. All in all about five years.
Favorite type of dance you take: Only one: Ballet.
Favorite type of dance you watch: I don't really watch much. Does occasional ice-skating count? :)

Anything else you would like to share about you as a dancer? Haha see above.

email address: escarlatt@gmail.com (you could email if you want my IM contacts)

Cheerios!

Hmm that's interesting... I've never seen a guy in any classes before. I was there only three years or so; I left at Grade 5 in late 2001. As I recall I was the oldest in class. LOL she may not remember me though; she knows me as Sue Anne. :D Hahaha..

ballet4mylife is such a wannabe la..someone who doesnt know much about dancing but still wanna give stupid so low class comments to some threads..u really sound like a no life wannabe that will never make it in this industry..so stop hoping your dreams..its already so difficult to survive as a dancer or an entertainer here..so i think u should stop giving comments on performances that u think is bad or good..cos u seriously dunno what u are talking about honey.
Anyway we should support local arts be it the company or dancers or performances..im sure u pay the cheapest ticket always to watch such performances so i think you should just go n watch n enjoy it..u not good enough to give bad comments on any perfomances unless u are a top artiste manager like me...
so me and my friends will keep a look out on you..
cheerzzz esp to those intend to spoil our local industry..

Honestly, I didn't find that quite legible.

To start, I would say that it is nothing wrong to be a 'wannabe', everyone aspires, it's part of being human, so is discouragement, but unfortunately, human and humanity are two different words, and worlds for that matter.

Secondly, for comments to hurt, you must first respect the commenter's judgement. If she were the 'wannabe' you knew, you shouldn't have been provoked. Unfortunately, you know the weight of her comment.

Thirdly, constructive feedback / criticism was definitely the smarter way out, by not stating the reason of your personal attack, neither leaving your identity renders that post a backstab. I'm afraid our dear readers accept blunt commentary better than backstabbers.

Lastly, comments are most effective polite :)

Disclaimer: I'm not defending her, you know I'm making sense.

One is entitled to give comments on anything whether she is a pro or not. I do not need to be a chef to comment that a dish tastes bad.If I don't like a restaurant, I won't go there anymore though I myself may not be able to cook. The local arts would be in a parlous state if no one dares to criticize anything.

Can we refrain from anonymous personal attacks in this forum? It is quite unseemly. The local pool of dancers is so small we should stick together. We come here to share our love for dance, not to tear one another down.

PS. I do know how to cook and I love gourmet ingredients. Just not complicated dishes and I cook semi-vegetarian :)

I guess whenever one watches a performance, they expect alot, coz naturally, those are professionals. Yes, we have high expectations from them. Critcism or not, is purely on an individual evaluation basis. I mean, how i view something is probably vastly different from how you view the exact same thing. Different perspectives. Therefore i think we really should respect each other's opinions. Even if we do not agree with it. Think it would be nice for us to give this meager amount of respect to our fellow dancers :)

Time for me to speak up.

1. Although I do not completely agree with ballet4mylife's criticism and her stance on bias support for local arts companies (I personally feel that we should open our eyes wider and look beyond local companies), I keep reminding myself that afterall she is a young girl who has not seen the world. No offence dear, just my personal humble opinions.

2. Your harsh, rude, degatory, ignorant, bias and generalising comments are uncalled for, Legend_Artiste. It only shows how mature you are. And the last two sentences are just a hair's breadth away from being a threat. Please refrain from flaming in this forum.

3. The mod has been informed, and will be taking action shortly. Do not be surprised if your Legend_Artiste's post is deleted.

4. A good day to everyone out there, all Singaporean and International dancers and non-dancers. Keep the dancing spirit alive!

Hah, i think that for a 'top artiste manager' YOU seriously don't know what u're talking about. Frankly that hurtful post was totally uncalled for. And I've really got to say one thing. Nevermind if ballet4mylife is pro or not, but if a 'top artiste manager' can't even take frank comments from the local general public, who on earth do u expect to support local productions? Greeks? Icelanders? (that was just random by the way). U're just going to end up pissing off everyone on this forum if u continue to write like that.

Hmm... I knew this would come... Wait a minute. Do i know you? You spoke as if you know me very well... Well. i know i went overboard on several accounts, but i have already apologised, so i think this is totally uncalled for. If you are not happy with whatever i said on this board, you could simply send me an email. You don't have to act anonymous to slander me you know?
Making critiques on dance has totally nothing to do with dancing ballet myself. There have been many balletomanes who watch ballets regularly, and critique them, but most of them do not dance at all. I know i can be very judgemental on a lot of stuff, but they are entirely my opinions. I believe everyone has their own right at making their opinions known.
Everyone at at least one point of time, is a wannabe. You said you are a top artiste manager. Then i guess you were once a wannabe. Your passion pushed you to go so far. So yes. I may be a wannabe, but i think you do not know me well enough to say that i can't make it. I do doubt myself a lot, cos' i think i have no talent. but i think if one works hard enough, one can excel. I mentioned i dreamt of becoming a professional dancer, but people who can make it as a pro dancer are of a very very small amount. I didn't say i was bent at becoming a pro dancer. I said i really would want to become one. I'm intend to study other stuff, other than dance, so that i can make a living without dancing.
And i do not buy the cheapest tix. I buy only stall seats. I only got a circle 3 seat once, as there are only seat left in that circle. So hmm... Have you seen me at the Esplanade watching SDT? I support the arts in S'pore, my dear. Whatever claims you have got on me, are very much on the surface. You do not know what i have done in my school, to say that i'm spoiling the local arts industry.
Comments are made for people to improve, especially criticism. I am aware that whatever i had said, doesn't make a difference whatsoever. The dancers are not hearing it. But the comments i made, are not really on the professional level. I'm making my comments based at the level of a student. So of course, you, a top artiste manager, would view my comments and criticism as very childish and immature. I do admit that there were several times, my comments were very immature. Well, some people do ask whether i have seen other performances other than those local ones. yes i do. i watch bolshoi, kirov, abt, nycb, royal ballet, on dvds. yes it cannot be compared to watching it live, but i do think there is any difference. Maybe that's why my comments are harsh. But I do not only make negative comments you know? If you were following the board for almost a year, you would have seen this: www.dance.net . . . . It's nothing, but i'm sure this is an evidence of how i'm supporting the local companies. Ain't i? I love SDT very much. If you have followed the ballet forums, i have made several posts about SDT (positive ones of course!), and even compiled a SDT pic album. So yups. Please make sure you do your research well, before you start 'defaming' me.

Whoever you are, i know that you made this post just to get a message across. I understand. Point taken. I'm trying to be very cautious of what i say on this board, after the previous incident. Someone had done such a thing before, slandering Xia Hai Ying, and it was deleted. So do be careful of what you say, if you still want to continue debating on this matter.

I'm soooo sorry Brandon, for letting this happen on your once interesting thread. I do sincerely hope that it gets deleted.

To other S'poreans, i do want to apologise if i have ever caused any hurt or whatsoever, by my immature comments and remarks i have made before. I've said this before, but i'm saying this again, to let everyone understand. i do think i'm a misunderstood girl by most who have little or no interaction with me. So yes. I do deeply regret if i caused any unhappiness.
