What is the leadership like for your guard? Do you have captains, and how many are on your guard. Also, does anybody else have captains and lietenants? The school that I coach at does, and I'm trying to figure out different roles and such that the leadership team can do, any ideas for captains and lietenants?

we have 4 or 5 captains. they usually help the newer people to guard out with new routines and moves.

Our guard usually has around 25-30 ish people. We have a captain and 2-4 lietenants and they usually have a strength in something. Like there's usually someone that's really amazing at rifle, sabre, flag, or dance, and they are basically in charge of those certain sections.

we have 1 capt. and 1 co-capt. Unfortunately it doesn't matter who is good at what, they always go to seniority. You could suck at guard completely and have horrible leadership skills and get capt. if you're the only senior. It's pretty messed up and it results in a bossy, clueless capt. every now and then.

This is only the second year for our flag corp, so we don't have a large squad between 4 and 7 girls. This is going to be our first year with a captain. Basically, the captain has to try out during auditions for that spot and the girl with the best qualities (leadership, appearence, and ability to perform the routines {5 in all}) gets the position. During the season, the captain's job is to call the girls and tell them when practice is, and instruct them what to wear to pep-rallies. Basically, act as a coach when the coach isn't there, (but for us, that's only at peprallies).
