Here are the shoes I did until now with this technique:

The sheep shoes you could allready see in this thread. They where worn by Mariane Joly in the past. She knows what I did to her shoes, I showed them to her and asked her to sign the sole.

I actually made two pairs like those. The second pair was for Vladimir Malakhov and Christiane Theobald (both working at the top of Staatsballett Berlin). Both really liked those shoes.

"Ohne dich ist alles doof"- shoes (everything is stupid without you. I just love those sheeps and I specially like this version where everything is stupid without you.
Sun -> stupid
little cute bug -> stupid
flowers -> stupid
everyone else -> stupid
tree -> stupid
butterfly -> stupid
ME -> stupid

Of course the varnish needs to dry. The varish I used dries quite fast (you can touch it after maybe 1 minute and after maybe one hour it´s completly dry), but that differs from varnish to varnish.

This may be a silly question, but does the varnish make them hard? Would it be possible to dance in shoes decorated like this?

The varnish makes the fabric a little more stiff, but not completly stiff.
When you want to wear them you should NOT put any varnish on the tip of the box. This could be VERY dangerous.
It is possible to dance in those shoes (when the tip wasn´t decorated), but of course it can happen that the decoration wears off a bit.

I love all of your decorated shoes.
My favourites are the ones with the sheeps on them and then the ones with the blue flowers on them.

Do you know if this would work for Irish dance soft shoes?

Image hotlink - 'http://i5.tinypic.com/7wiyvyd.jpg'

I know they are a completely different material (leather) and there is not as much decorating space on them, but I have so many old pairs that I don't use, and this would be so cool to do on them, if it would work.

re irish shoes , would it not work if you covered layers of tissue paper in the same way then put on the pattern desighns , just neads more layers of paste and paper . I would think. I am going to try it on highland shoes anyway. I will let you know how I get on. christine
