Are most mestres macho and elitist?

I've heard that the Brazilian and Capoeira culture is very macho and bullying, even within itself. My contra mestre is very nice and patient but his mestre is a bit egotistical and full of himself. When he plays his in the roda, he doesn't follow the rules or guidelines he suggest for us. He tells us it's important to keep form in a game, always keep strong form, but he doesn't even play capoeira, he just jumps around and kicks all willy nilly. No wonder he confuses and screws up people in the game. No one plays like that. If we all played like that it would be chaos, maybe someone would knock him out. Once he just shoved a guy out because I could tell he was getting frustrated. I mean, he's happy and good natured all the time but he's like a kid who has to have his way. So full of himself.
