You know you're in guard when...
"One more time means twelve in actuality."
"You get strange looks from people when you talk about your rifle or sabre."
"The security guards at school get scared when they see you walking around with your rifle or sabre."
"The bus driver gets angry when you bring your flags on the bus and take up the whole aisle."
"All your coach says is, 'SMILE, GIRLS!'." |

your not really phased when someone or yourself wheres something bizaree.
your comfortable in spandex
2 tons of makeup and a whole bottle of hairspray lasts for about half a show.
band boys are your constant obsession
bus rides are a weekly ritual
band parents are truley your second parents
gym floors become comfortable
you could be in your underwear and in front of the band and not really even care. |

You can smile on command
You'll never get the glitter out of your hair or nails
You twirl EVERYTHING (pencils, rulers, brooms, etc.)
Whenever you hear music that has been in a show, you start doing the routine, even if its a different arrangment
You don't mind staying at school for hours after the schoolday ends to practice or get ready for a performance
You can curl ANY type of hair, even hair that DOES NOT curl.
You have a drawer full of band and guard shirts
Yes, all of these apply to me. |

bruises are a good thing
you can put your hair up so tight that everyone looks like they have asian eyes
you are used to feeling your eyelashes billowing in the wind
your hair is crunchy |

You know you've been in Guard when...
You march in step to any music you hear;
You learn how to fix your hair and make-up on the band bus going around curves and up mountains;
You name your equipment (my purple flag is 'Old Faithful' and my favorite gold flag is 'Burt' and my other gold flag is 'Ernie');
When you get in trouble at camp for playing pranks on the other auxilary members;
When you have broken toes while spinning.
O.K., I haven't broken my toes, but some girls I know have, but the rest totally applies to me and my friends in the auxilary unit of our band (flags and majorettes) |

One of my friends made these up, they're pretty funny:
If you know it's called "marching season," not "football season..."
If you've reached the point where getting hit with a 6-foot metal pole doesn't really bother you anymore...
If you've ever been caught practicing a routine with a pencil during class...
If someone's called you a "flaggot" before, and you weren't offended...
If you've ever had someone give you a frightened look when you mentioned that you're skilled with a rifle...
If you know how to strip without taking off any clothes...
If your year is divided into three seasons: marching season, winterguard, and off-season...
If the last statement didn't apply to you because you know that there is no such thing as "off-season..."
If you've ever dated/had a crush on someone in the marching band...
If you know well that little pang of excitement you get when you hear a song you once did a routine to...
If you've ever taken out a ceiling tile doing a rifle toss...
If the phrase "windmill blister" means anything to you...
If you've ever been listening to a song and found yourself making up a flag routine to it in your head...
If you know it's spelled flag CORPS, not flag CORE (and it's not pronounced like "corpse" either)...
If you have a scar with a "great flag story" behind it...
If you've ever started a story with the phrase "one time, at flag camp..."
and if any of these apply to you...you might be on flag team. |
