this is such a cool post! the articles are very interesting.
look at all of the differences! no sparkly dresses with feathers and such hanging off...no wigs...no glitz or glamour! things sure have changed.
and they tie their laces up their ankles!
thanks for posting..i enjoyed looking at the articles. |

Great post Bec.
Kudos to your Grandad for saving the pics and karma to you for sharing them
One of my school friends used to dance at the Irish Centre in Liverpool, wonder if she was part of the St Pat's display, she'd have been 16ish at the time
LOL @ George Ferguson named as a senior. I remember being told his light dancing was to die for and everyone fancied him because he was a good looking lad
To think that way back then I didn't know that Irish Dancing existed apart from my dad saying to me on the odd occasion, you should go and learn to do ID. Easier said than done when he worked all the hours God sent on a boat on the river Mersey and mum, who couldn't drive had my bros in quick succession when I was 5, 6.5 and 8!! Imagine trying to get on a train or bus with 3 babies and me Aren't kids lucky now that most of their parents have cars to ferry them around to class and feis?

Interesting photos! I also noticed that most of these dresses are as short as the dresses the girls wear now. |

Wow Bec! That's for taking the time to post that, it was really interesting to read the articles and see the pictures. It's amazing how much Irish dancing has evolved since then.

Awesome! I noticed the girls don't seem to be wearing poodle socks (maybe it's just the resolution of the pictures?) When did it become "traditional" to wear poodle socks and curl hair? |

Fashion wise the mini skirt was still very in in 1974, the grannie skirt being more alternative and of course dance fashions followed suit.
Think of now with hipsters and dropped waist dresses.
Karma to your Grandad for collecting all of these clips, they are great. |
