I just spent two weeks on a coach tour of Western Europe with a tour company for 18-35s called Contiki as part of my tourism studies...here's some of my favourite photos from it. The top one is the Colusseum, Rome (and every tourist in the world has that exact picture, hahaha.)

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/DSCN0194.jpg'

Our bright purple tour bus picking us up at our London hotel.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/DSCN0202_1.jpg'

Hotel room in Amsterdam, my roomie and I peeking out of the bathroom.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/DSCN0207_1.jpg'

Public urinal...ewwwww. Laura tries it out.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/DSCN0228_1.jpg'

Canal cruise, Amsterdam. Free wine and beer was flowing, as you may be able to tell.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/AmsterdamCanals.jpg'

Canals of Amsterdam, about a block from Anne Frank House.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/IMGP0619.jpg'

Wine cellar where we went for a tasting in the Rhine valley of Germany.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/DSCN0286.jpg'

Drinking beer in Munich- I promise we did more than drink, haha.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/AustrianAlps.jpg'

A view of the Alps as we pass through Austria.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/CrystalMuseum.jpg'

The Swarovski Crystal museum...I spent so much money here, it wasn't even funny. Jewelry like mad.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/IMGP0821.jpg'

We went whitewater rafting in the Alps- here we are at the very end of the run, about to finish. It was only a class 3, but pretty impressive nonetheless (and COLD!!)

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/Venice.jpg'

Boating into Venice on a beautiful day.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/IMGP1350.jpg'

A view of St. Peter's dome at the Vatican City.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/TreviFountain.jpg'

Trevi Fountain, another picture every tourist in the world has.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/PonteVecchio.jpg'

Ponte Vecchio, Florence.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/DSCN0376.jpg'

Drinking again, this time at a beautiful Tuscan restaurant, where we ate heaps of food and danced like crazy.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/DSCN0392.jpg'

Then we headed to a disco and danced some more.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/IMGP1151.jpg'

View from our Swiss hotel at the top of Mount Pilatus in Lucerne.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/EiffelTowerandme.jpg'

Hanging out at the Eiffel Tower on a VERY windy day.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/IMGP1202.jpg'

Hello, Paris! View from the tower.

More Paris pictures to come...I warned you I had a lot of photos, eeek.

I speak rudimentary French (I'm Canadian, so it's compulsory in schools when we're young), competent German (spent a semester abroad in grade eleven), and fluent Spanish (lived there as a nanny for six months after high school.) So...Germany, Austria, and Switzerland were fine for me with my German, I got by with my schoolgirl French in Paris, and in Italy I mostly just tried the Spanish words for stuff and people seemed to understand me. The Netherlands was really the only place I went where I didn't speak the language, and everyone seems to speak English there without exception (and usually almost without an accent.)

The Paris Opera House

And again...unfortunately there was rehearsal going on, so we couldn't go into the auditorium. Sad.

Notre Dame.

And inside.

Old Metro sign near the Louvre.

Image hotlink - 'http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/MeganElishaAnderson/Nicki_s2006Eurotrip368.jpg'

Street sign on the Arc de Triomph traffic circle.

And the Moulin Rouge, which was extremely cool. No pictures allowed inside, but the show was amazing.

And...that's Paris.

Megan,

Nice pictures! I love the one from your hotel in Lucerne and the creepy face/waterfall one. Haha. I'd love to see some of your jewelry sometime.

That's not me in the Amsterdam pic...which I suppose is why I had no idea where the pants came from.

Jess, you should have been at the reunion last night, I wore the necklace and bracelet I bought. And danced like mad.

...and you took a picture of the toonie bar/Dean's hot pants. Oh, Dean. Yeah, I had studying and schoolwork, and I didn't want to pay $65 for a dinner. :S

So.. my burning question.. how did you like Contiki? Was it fun? or always drunken people?

I want to go on one next year, but at 25, I am afraid I will be stuck with drunken 18 year olds the whole time. And after spending $4000 I would be hella annoyed if it was not so good.

But then again, everyone I know who has been on one had a good time..

:?

What are your thoughts?

Mine wasn't a regular Contiki tour, so I can't help you there, unfortunately. I was on a travel-agents' familiarization trip, so different people then there would usually be.

Great pictures. I would love to go around Western Europe. Alas, I am poor and skeptical of those trips as Sparkz pointed out.

-You're serious??? That's the view from your hotel???

Wow. Just... Wow.

I would so love to be able to afford to go round Central-Europe. A few of my friends are at that at the minute, inter-railing. I think I'm going to wait until I'm older, wiser, with a bit more money, and see the off-the-beaten-track parts, taking in the culture of the place the way I did when I was in Germany on the youth exchange... The way of life - you'know?
