Figure Skating I may be starting this summer! en>fr fr>en By KeepOnSingin Comments: 10519, member since Sun Dec 19, 2004On Thu Jun 15, 2006 08:20 PM
Locked by MissYou009 (116683) on 2006-08-02 20:31:37 I'm not starting for various reasons
I have always loved figure skating, and have always wanted to do it.
I just found out today that a local rink is offering a 2 week long intensive camp:
- 6 hours a day:
- 2 hours on Ice Session
- 1 1/2 hour Open Freestyle
- 1 hour each Physical Fitness program Ballet, and Rythem class
- 1/2 hour Stroking class (
- plus many non public, open skating times for members)
- A testing session at the end
I've been trying to figure out what to do this summer because I've been out of dacne for so long that I might as well try something new since I have the time in the summer.I already have skates, and money won't be an issue because my parents already said that they would pay for dance,so I would just do this instead.
So should I go for it?I am 15 by the way (not that I'm asking if I'm too old,I know that I'm not,I was just saying). 8 Replies to I may be starting this summer! | re: I may be starting this summer! en>fr fr>en By sk8star Comments: 274, member since Thu Apr 20, 2006On Thu Jun 15, 2006 08:29 PM
Absolutelyyyyy if you want to!
It's never too late and who knows you could find this something you truly enjoyyyy...
If you want some extra encouragement, take this story into mind
There is a woman at my rink who is 60+ and she still skates and competes...she told me today that she does it because she loves it.
So I say go for it...it's always a great way to meet people and stay in shape | re: I may be starting this summer! en>fr fr>en By lipinskifan4eva Comments: 262, member since Sun Jan 08, 2006On Mon Jun 19, 2006 03:26 AM
Just besure not to tire your self out with the 6hours every day, thats quite a bit even for a higher level skater.

^ I agree - it sounds like a lot for a beginner, just be sure you don't get too tired out from this. It sounds like something I'd love to do, but even I would be worried about getting tuckered out from it. I just hope all this work doesn't turn you off from skating too soon. Some of the beginners that try too much at first get sick of it really fast. I'm glad that you're so excited about it though! That's a good attitude to have. 6 hours is a lot,but I've done sports camps and choir for that long...It's not too bad.Granted,I've never skated for that long, but it's worth a try...In fact, the only skating experience I've ever had was at the rink at a park across the street from my grandparents house.
I have done ballet for about 3 years now too. | re: I may be starting this summer! en>fr fr>en By toutesweet Comments: 57, member since Wed Jun 14, 2006On Tue Jun 20, 2006 10:35 PM
Yeah it might be a bit much. You might want to start off with some basic figure skating lessons, you know? Learn the technique and all.
I might be taking a couple classes this summer myself. I'm 13. | |

I'm pretty sure that they don't have regular skating lessons over the summer.Looking at the website it just seems like they have camp all summer. | re: I may be starting this summer! en>fr fr>en By dani_girl_ Comments: 502, member since Thu Jun 03, 2004On Tue Aug 01, 2006 05:50 AM

I agree with some of the ^^ posters. It is a little too much. Even if you dance, you haven't taken a lot of skating training. It would be way way too much for a beginner to handle. But good luck though!
