Recitals & Performing STAGE FRIGHT - TIPS en>fr fr>en By IOPBALLERINA Comments: 30, member since Tue Jun 20, 2006On Tue Jun 20, 2006 10:33 AM
Ahh.. recitals... the make-up, the hair, the excitment...
and the STAGE FRIGHT.
It is rare when you find somebody who doesn't get nervous when they are about to go no stage. Everybody gets nervous, but everybody reacts differently.
At my last show, I was surprised to hear my dance teacher, who I have always looked up to, say that she has bad stage fright. She has always taught me to not be nervous, although I must admit that I still do get nervous.
When younger dancers come up to me, scared out of their minds, I always tell them calmly that there is no reason to be nervous, because from the stage you cannot see the hundreds of people watching you. Yes this is what I tell myself before a big show and before I go on. It has always reduced the amount of Stage Fright that builds up in you before a number.
So my advice to you is just go out there... and be yourself. Be confident, and be strong. The people in the audience are not judging you, so they don't care if you make a mistake. Nobody else knows your dance choreography, except you and your teacher, so they won't ever know if you miss a step or if you rush a combination.
I hope I have helped you, and I hoped I have boosted your confidence about performing in shows. 3 Replies to STAGE FRIGHT - TIPS |

good advice. but don't forget lots of deep breaths. scientifically proven, you can't physically get that knot in your stomach if you keep breathing deeply. and from personal experience, it's true. |

Great advice. I usually never get stage fright since I`ve been preforming for so long, but for those younger dancers that come up to me in the dressing room line scared out of their minds I just tell them to take deep breathes and calm down because everything will be over in a matter of 3 minutes. Stage fright is common in some dancers, but I just get used to it and pretend I`m back in the studio with the mirrors in front of me just dancing.
Keep on Dancing =]]

Haha I never get nervous before I go on stage to dance! On the other hand when I am speaking or singing in front of large groups of people that is a different story! The tip for breathing deeply is really good. |
