Hello,
I was reading the other "Ukie Art" but it wouldn't let me reply to it. I think the drawing is FABULOUS! Do you sell any of your work? And would you be willing to do others like it? Have you ever hear of Art by Larisa?
www.artbylarisa.com. She has some really nice stuff. I have a few of her pieces. 9 Replies to Ukie Art |

I only have one of her pieces (Duet). I don't remember the name of it but I really really want to get the one with the Bandura in it |

I thought she used to dance as well, but I looked it up on her site and it didn't mention anything like that. It did offer this though, so I'm guessing that if she did dance it was with an Edmonton group:
Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn is an accomplished Canadian artist, who is well known to many Edmontonians. Larisa was born in Edmonton and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Art & Design (’81) from the University of Alberta. |

"After the Hopak" is my favorite one. My parents gave it to me for my birthday a few years ago. |

I also love Larisa's art. I was recently in Edmonton and stopped and the ukrainian bookstore and bought 2 of her paintings. My favorite is the one titled "Pride, Passion, and Preserverance". Its a painting of a pile of dance footwear, from beginner ballet slippers, to koxachky (lace up black boots), boots, pointe shoes, charachter shoes, etc. You have to check this one out..... |

I have 3 of her pieces - Duet, After the Hopak and Malanka. I think we have a few of the smaller ones she's done, of flowers and stuff, but I can't remember. After the Hopak is my favourite, but I also really love the new one with the dance shoes, I've thought about getting that one.
There are some other good Ukie artists out there. Theres one in Saskatoon, Janet Danyluk (I think?) that did a series of women, one for each season, that are just pencil sketches, but she'll colour them in for you with watercolours, and they're very beautiful too. I have one of the series, I think I have spring (the one with the poppies).
I also have a really cool set of dancers that are sort of like sculptures, but they're for the wall. They were hand carved and cast, and then the artist broke the mold after 100. Each one is individually painted. It's kind of the classic boy/girl poltava picture, but they're two separate pieces. Mine are both blue (cheravady and kersetka), and the girls' ribbons are metal, so they look like they're flying out behind her. He even custom painted the poyas on the boy on mine to be rainbow striped like our Tryzub guys' are - but he swore he wouldn't do another one like that because it took him forever to get the lines right, he had to have his son put it on so he could figure out how the lines went within the knots.
Anyway, I think thats all the ukie art I have..., nope, I have another one by Tanya Axiuk as well. Hope I have enough walls at my house in the future to put them all on! |

I tried to look up some of those artists written above but I couldn't find them, so if you have any links that would be great! I just purchased the painting "In Time of the Concert" and I can't wait to add it to my collection! I have "Pride, Passion, and Perseverance" and "After the Hopak". I saw "Malanka" framed at a Ukrainian dance festival I was in a few months ago and thought it was amazing. I think that will be my next : ) |
