This year our recital theme is WORK. I am looking for any song ideas about working or a particular job or profession and a song I could possibly usen to go with it. I teach 6 creative movement classes ages 3-5, 3 ballet classes ages 6-8, 3 tap classes 6-8, and a jazz class 8-10. I would love any suggestions anyone has, thank you soo much!

Dear ddcdancer,
I know that I can help you with this theme. We use Careers as a Homecoming Theme when I worked for the High School I grad-uated. I was the one who came up with the theme.
Let's start with the six creative movement classes.
Wee Rockettes or I wanna be a rockette-Radio City Rockettes
Ballerina Girl-Prima Ballerina/Ballet Dancer
Happy Tapping With Elmo-Tap Dancer
I've been working on the Railroad or The Trolley Song-Conductor
By the Sea, Under the Sea, Splish Splash-Lifeguard
Hey Mickey-Cheerleaders
Aminal Crackers-Cook
Candy Man, Candy, I want candy-Candy Salesperson

I also remember when I was in dance one year we did a careers theme. Three Tap Dance Classes.

Footloose-Shoe Salesperson
Working Day and Night, 9 to 5, Taking Care of Business- Office Workers
We're In the Money, Money, Money, Money-Stockbrokers
One Night Only from Dreamgirls-Performers

I also saw my finacees niece's dance recital last year and they did the career theme. One Jazz Dance Class.

Rumors, I heard a rumor, You should hear how she talks about you-Gossip Columnist
Dress You Up, Vogue, Material Girl-Fashion Designer
Supermodel-Model
Lucky, Get Ready, I am what I am-Actress

I hope that I helped you out. If I get anymore ideas I will post them for you. I am in the process of thinking of ideas for my dance classes for next years dance recital also.

For many years I have used a lot of the Al Gilbert Training Aids for younger children (available at musicworksunlimited.com). I'll list some that I've used and liked that could possibly work with your theme:
"Little Ballet Star" (very sweet & pretty; starts out with "When I grow up I will be a ballet star for all to see...etc. etc.)
"The Little Sugar Plum Fairy" (similar to the one mentioned above)
"When I Grow Up" (a Shirley Temple number)
"I Wanna See My Name Up There In Lights" (talks about being a Braodway/Hollywood star)
"With A Smile & A Song/Whistle While You Work" (a medley of songs from Snow White)
"I Want To Be A Broadway Baby" (precious for pre-school tap)

Another that comes to mind is available through Kimbo:
"T.V. That's For Me" (about being a dancing star on T.V.)
Their website is kimboed.com
Let me know if you're interested in any of these and/or if you have any trouble locating them.
Some other ideas:
"Baby You Can Drive My Car" by the Beatles (race car drivers maybe?)
"Take Me Out To The Ballgame" (baseball players)
"An Apple for The Teacher" (teachers)
"In The Navy" by the Village People or "Good Ship Lollipop" (sailors)
"Good Lovin'" by The Rascals (the one that says Doctor, Doctor, Mr. M.D....)
"Tea For Two" (waitresses; could use trays for props)
Sorry this is so long; don't know if any of it will be helpful or not!
