How old is a good age to start rhythmic gymnastics? Can anyone join at any age in the recreational division? What is the requirement for competitions

Any age really is a great age to start rythmic. 7 or 8 is a fairly common age to start though for kids who want to go through to become highly competitive. But is is quite common for kids to start later if they have had experience in similar sports like ballet or artistic gymnastics and still make it to a highly competitive level.

To become a top level gymnast i would probably say that the ideal would be to start some form of gymnastics/dance/movement basics between the ages of 3-5 and then begin foccusing for RG between the age of 6-8. Most top level gymnasts start between 5-8, of course you can start at any age if its only for recreational purposes. This isnt to say that anyone starting after 8 won't ever make it to be an elite gymnast it just means that the person probably has exceptional talent and determination.

i would think it depends on the individual. international gymnasts usually start at a really young age (between 3-5). but there are some who start really late! for example yulia barsoukova from russia started at 11 & she was REALLY good.
