The ADFP have in its newsletters to it's members and also expressed on dance.net, rules regarding sponsored costumes.

However it has been brought to my attention that there are several sponsored costumes being sold on this page. Whilst we understand that some are being sold on behalf of the costumemaker, dancers, parents and teachers should be aware of the following.

Dancers are not allowed to gain financially by selling sponsored costumes and the ADFP would like owners of sponsored costumes to be aware that any funds received for selling their sponsored costumes have to be paid back to the costume maker who supplied the sponsored outfit. If not dancers will be in contravention of rule 7f and could lose their amateur status as they will be seen to having received payment in kind by the costume maker for dancing in the outfit.

Rule 7 . FORFEITURE OF AMATEUR STATUS .. If a dancer ...

(f) Accepts remuneration in cash or kind for the use of his or her name as a dancer in an advertisement or sells a sponsored costume for financial gain.

My daughter would love to be sponsored only she thinks it will never happen as sponsors really want the most gymnastic dancers rather than the ones who cannot put their legs behind their necks! Shame really - if a sponsor could sponsor a child who was not so gymnastic it would give so much encouragement to those kids dancing out there who are not gymnasts but can dance their pants off!

My daughter is very fortunate to be sponsored by a top designer, she cant wrap her legs round her head, was sponsored as a starter, and is now in Inters, I am not saying your daughter will ever be sponsored but hope my story sees sponsorship in a different light :)

I would love for my daughter to gain a sponsorship - She started dancing October last year(08) and has now just lost her last life and is now an Inter (May 09) - I am so very proud of her but the financial strain of buying costumes is hitting hard!! Please advise of best way on getting sponsorship!

Many thanks

This is very interesting to know. My two girls aren't sponsored but a few at our dance school are. Well done to all dancers who are!
