You're all wrong!
It was the rooster, people, the ROOSTER. Then, the chicken, and eventually the egg.
What do they teach in schools these days? :?

DancingBeaner, I was totally going to say the same thing!!! I've always believed the egg came first, and my mom has always believed it was the chicken. I was so excited to learn that I had been scientifically proven right.

I think I may have clicked chicken by accident, ah well. I believe the egg came first because during the evolutionary process, there have been many species that have laid eggs and the actual species around nowadays most likely evolved from egg-laying ancestors.

Also, the egg has a less complex structure and the DNA in the egg is what makes the chicken...if something went wrong with an egg...not quite a chicken egg that transformed the genes enough to make the chicken come before the egg, this chicken would become extinct without having many eggs go through the same process, which I believe is possible, but unlikely.

Egg.

Why? Read dust2dusts comment for example. No need to repeat that.

This is kind of religous but, God made everything, and he didn't make an egg...he made an actual chicken, to make eggs and make more chickens..lol

So the chicken came first.

the chicken came first because the chicen evolved from somethig and didnt orinate from an egg because if it did then a chicken would have had to have laid it!

It depends on how you look at it. If you believe in creation, then God created everything the way it is, and therefore created the chicken first. If you believe in evolution, then the egg came first, it just wasn't laid by the chicken, but rather a chicken's ancestor.

I think the turkey came first. Then, the turkey had an egg gone wrong. And voila, the chicken was born.

I decided that it must be the egg. Why the egg? Well, if you think the theory of evolution has any validity (which almost any scientist will tell you it has), chickens evolved from prior species which were egg laying. In fact, eggs were around for hundreds of millions of years before chickens evolved. So when you look at it that way, I think the answer is pretty clear cut.

Think! One-celled animals came long before any kind of egg, and one-celled animals have been observed to shy away from a good many things, so the chicken came first.

Think further! Maybe one-celled animals were much bolder back then. Maybe the Earth was flat in the days of the Vikings, etc.

(Actually the Vikings undoubtedly had data that the Earth was not flat. There must be Viking accounts of observing the top of a ship first as it approached land - this despite how few Vikings were literate)

Well, the chicken has eggs in it right? So they both came at the same time.

I still voted for the Chicken though. I believe the chicken came first because you need chickens in order for eggs to be created and laid.

But you need the egg to getthe chicken...

My friend said chicken came first. From a Christian view, God created animals, not things that turn into animals.

Yeah, cause "God created it" is absolutely the best, cogent argument ever.

From a Christian view, God created animals, not things that turn into animals.
But that isn't THE Christian view - it's YOUR Christian view. I guess you haven't heard, but most Christians actually believe in Evolution.
