Hello Class and Welcome to the first lesson. Today we will learn the 8 positions, skip 23s and the frist step of our jig. You can call me Miss. Ghillie.

You should be wearing comfortable clothes(i.e shorts and a tshirt or yoga pants) and ballet slippers, jazz shoes, ghillies or socks.

In Irish dance you are always on demi-pointe with your feet in 5th position. Make sure your are turning out from the hips not your knees

Your arms are always straight down at you side and your shoulders are back and your chin and eyes are up.

8 positions and skips 23's are warmups

8 POSITIONS

1st position.
you turn out your left foot and point your right foot in front of it.

2nd position.
Is fifth postion with your feet flat are the ground and your right foot should be the front foot.

have both your feet turned out in first position

put your right foot behind your left in fifth position so your left foot is in front.

then do the eight positions with your left foot, it is the same but your left foot is in front for the point and in fith position then you put your left foot behind and start the right foot again with pointing your right foot.

do the eight positons 8 times, 4 times on your left foot and 4 times on your right foot alternating. So you do

right foot positions 1-8
left foot positions 1-8
right foot positions 1-8
left foot positions 1-8
right foot positions 1-8
left foot positions 1-8
right foot positions 1-8
left foot positions 1-8

we will do skips 23's in a circle, one person will got then 8 bars later then go to the end of the line and the next person starts so line please.

step= just a normal step(like your are walking) with your foot turned out.
jump= stand in fifth position with your right foot in front and jump straight up.

jump.
up.
point your right foot.
step on your left foot.
step on your right foot.
Jump.
up.
up.
step on your right foot.
step on your left foot.
jump.
up.
jump
up.
point.

well done

do the eight positions again 8 times, 4 times on your right foot and 4 times on your left foot altenating as a cool down.

^Thats odd, I just posted that comment and its too old to edit. :P Anywho...I made a mistake:

Silly me, I meant WITH turned out feet. Your feet always need to be crossed and turned out when you dance.
