I would definitely recommend that you ask your teacher what she expects. Assistants at my studio were told in a "faculty" meeting, as well as given in writing, what their roles would be. It's different at each studio, and in each class, depending on how a teacher runs her class or what the students need. My assistants help keep the younger kids in line for across the floor and help count them off when it's time for each group to go. Also, if they notice basic things like feet not pointed, knees not stretched, sagging arms, they correct the students. Hope that gives you some idea, but I really think you should talk to your teacher to make sure you are all on the same page. |

Definitely talk to your teacher, but I can tell you what I have my assistants do. Basically, they help line the kids up (in center and across the floor), they demonstrate steps so that I can watch the kids and correct them, and they lead combinations and recital dances for a while until the kids can do them on their own. Basically, I make my assistant do things so that I can focus on each individual child. Hope that helps! |

As an assitant (for kindergarten though..), I mainly get them in their lines, have them stay there, remind them not to hang on the barre, or to run, make sure they've gotten the combos down..Just assisting. I also take attendence. *shudder*

1st of all i would just lie 2 say that my name's Hope 2 & not many ppl have that name soo i think its kewl that u do 2...neways i am an assistant 2 and have been assisting for the past 3 yrs. Whenever the kids are talking, you should tell them 2 stop. When the teacher is teaching a combonation, do it with them & try to look out for mistakes and try to help them stay in line and formation. I usually assist for the younger kids so for them you have 2 watch out for crawling around the room, and undtied shoes. Hope I helped out a little

For some classes I lead the warm up, keep them in line for across the floor activities, or lead thier across the floor activities, In some of the classes I choreograph and teach thier second recital dance. Generally I keep them in line for when the teacher is talking, or if someone is misbehaving while the teacher is busy I deal with that, make trips to the bathroom, deal with crying kids, anything really that needs to be done while the teacher is busy. |
