I really really need help on what to do. Here's the thing i am one of the captains of my dance team and the problem is that we have girls with really different skill levels that its hard to make up a routine especially for competition. So we always have to end up doing the really, really easy dances so the girls with less experience can get it. But i also feel that its not fair for those girls who can do really well. for example some girls can barely do leap right and some girls on the squad can do axels and stuff. I tried to incorporate both skills in a dance but that didn't work out because the skills levels are just so far off. i don't know what to do, expecially for competition. i want us to do great, but we won't if we have to do these easy baby dances. Also, the coach seems to like these easy dance to. She new to dance and doesn't really understand that where supposed to be trying to improve and it also sucks because the girls with less dance experience can't do hiphop and we have to do a hiphop routine for competition. any suggestions on what i should do. any advice please. as coaches what do you guys suggest

Try having people do different things in the dance that compliment eachother... While your front line does a little piece, have the back do something that doesn't distract from the front, but adds to the excitement, then switch. Levels are another way to do this. You could set up a bowling pin-have the outside of the pin just doing arms while the inside adds feet. There are lots of variations you could add.

mshellmr is right. It's all about how you stage your piece and what choreography you use. You have to be smart about the whole process and not be too quick about it. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. :)
Also, to play your part as a helpful captain try taking steps to help the ones who are weaker get stronger. Make a list of what you could do. Offer help sessions. Add an extra technique class. Attend a dance studio with some of them. Have your officers help with the helping. Pass that list to your director. Even if nothing comes of it at least you made an attempt to access the situation and that is what a good captain does. :)
Good luck.

I think there is method to the madness. remember KISS (keep it simple stupid). The more simple the routine.. the cleaner it is. as techniques improve you can add more difficulty. in regards to hip hop, remember this is a dance that was made up in the streets. its all about feeling and and inside work. some dance skills may help, but there is nothing formal about it. when theres a will theres a way .. find it .. and make it work for the team!

Besides hip hop are there any other styles of dance you are competing with? Hip hop doesn't nessesarily need the dancy technique, so you don't really need to fret there. Also, how many girls are on your team? YOu only need-it's either 8 or 10 girls to compete (depending on the competition). So do like our team does, pull girls off who can't get theri level up- if they want to compete bad enough they'll work to improve their skills, if not no harm done cuz they aren't competing. Our team has a fast range of skill levels as well your team sounds identical to my team. So we first remove the dead weight, then we work with what we have. Like the others have said, have groups doing different things. For turns, have some doing doubles, tripples, quads, etc. have different levels and groups, for example outside groups do a toe touch while inside group c jumps. There's all kinds of ways to wrok around this, you just have to be creative. So Good luck and let us know how things turn out!
