I don't know how it is at your school, but at my school, at least till last year, the cheerleaders always danced at games. Well now we have a dance team(and im on it) at our school and the cheerleaders STILL think that they can dance at our games. If they wanted to dance they should have joined dance team, right? Am i the only one with this problem????

I don't have that problem but yeah I agree that they shouldn't get to dance at games if you guys are...but do you dance at ALL the games?! My team only dances at about half so if the cheerleaders at my school DID want to dance, they could probably still do it at the game we didn't want to dance at...

I agree. some of the cheerleaders try to "dance" at halftime of basketball games sometimes. I'm on the dance team and we try to dance at as many home games as we can, and when we see the cheerleaders out there as well, It's like they are taking our time. the cheerleaders, well They even used some of the dance team's music once. That got me a little mad, yet I was kind of flattered at the same time. I mean, not being rude, but some of the cheerleaders at my school can't dance at all. Oh well, I have some friends that are cheerleaders so I dont want anybody getting the impression that I dislike cheerleaders. I dunno, I just think cheerleaders should stick to what they do best, which is cheer.

it's tradition at most schools for the cheerealders to dance and preform at 1/2 time. And yes they do dance, that was on of the things that the first cheerleaders did. I don't understand what is all the tension between the pommers and the cheereladers. You go into this forum and thats the majority of what you see, yet when you go into the cheerleading forum all they generally say are nice things about cheereladers. Cheerleaders were MENT to preform and DANCE at 1/2 time! they were ment to encourage the team and get the crowd involved.

ok first I'd like to say that I'm a cheerleader. I wanted to be on pom but, my school didn't offer it so I tried out for cheer and got on the squad. My school alsodoesn't have a dance team so we cheerleaders dance at the basketball games. Oh i should also mention that my number 1 passion is dance, not cheer. I agree with you and disagree with you. I agree that it is not fair for the cheerleaders to take your time to dance when that is what you are supposed to and want to do. But that doesn't mean that cheerleaders shouldn't dance just because they aren't as good at it.

I understand cheerleaders want to perform as well. That's not my problem. It's just that the cheerleaders at my school were trying to do some dance team moves and they were using our music. That wasn't cool at all. I mean they totally took some of our moves and made our dances look stupid. Come on, I mean I understand cheering to music but actually dancing and calling it a "cheer dance" is an absolute "no no" in my book. If cheerleaders want to dance and the school doesn't have a dance team, then I wouldn't mind them doing it but when the school already has a dance team, then it's another thing. I mean if they want to dance, they can try out for dance team. Oh, and dont get me wrong. Cheerleaders are cool and all, and I know a lot of cheerleaders can dance and have taken formal dance lessons before, but some cheerleaders haven't taken dance and so they shouldn't try to incorporate dance into their cheerleading halftime routines.

I agree with Spartanette. Cheerleaders started the whole "dancing at half time" thing. I don't care how it is at your school, thats how it originally was. Cheerleading has been around for so much longer than pom squads and dance teams have. But when cheerleading competition got popular, cheerleaders wanted to work on cheers and things they could compete at and not have to worry about getting dance routines together just for half time of games. But the audience still wants to see dance at half time so thats where they got pom squads. So people shouldn't hate on the cheerleaders who want to dance at half time. If it weren't for them they're probably wouldn't even be a dance team at your school. You should praise them for putting in all the extra practice time to learn cheers AND dances. Besides, now many cheerleading competitions require the teams compete in a dance division to be able to even compete. So its not really fair to say they know nothing about dance, alot of people on dance teams haven't taken any dance before they're on that team so its not much different. Like I said earlier, if its really a conflict peopel should just talk to the athletic director and split the home games in half or else just let the cheerleaders dance too. It's not fair to exclude them just because their called "cheerleaders" and not "pom pom girls"

ohh and FYI I'm not a cheerleader, I'm on my school's dance team. And not to be mean but I don't even like the cheerleaders at our school. And they dance right before us at pep rallys and stuff but no one on our team cares. Let them do their thing. They let us do ours. I just think people should do the school research before they go saying they have the right to dance more than the cheerleaders do.

I totally disagree with that. Cheerleading dances and dancers dances are completely different. So maybe they let both of you guys do a dance but i think cheerleaders should stilll get to dance.

Last year, the cheerleaders at my school started dancing at half-time. There had been a pom squad around for quite a while, and all we do is dance, so a lot of us were kind of offended. (By the way, most of the cheerleaders at my school cannot dance very well, all the dancers are on poms.) We just let the cheerleaders dance though, and eventually they gave it up. They were just embarassing themselves, because their dances were so easy and had lots of repeats and the like. So my advice would be to not worry about it, consider it a compliment. Maybe they will stop, but you might just have to learn to live with it. Poms did come from cheerleading, and they have a right to show their stuff at halftime too.
