This will be my 10 year in business celebration at this years recital. Any suggestions as to a recital theme or music ideas?? Just needing a creative direction to work with. Thanks for your time.

I teach Irish, so I'm afraid I have no theme/music suggestions that would work for you, but I did want to offer congratulations. And I am having a special "10 Year Anniversary" T-shirt made up instead of our usual t-shirts/sweatshirts this year. I hope to sell a bunch!

What about a recital that's about what was around or in the news 10 years ago? Or if you could find any songs around the number 10 and feature those (none come to mind right now!.)Do you have any picutres of your students who have been with you 10 years - might be fun to show a power point slide show with them dancing then and have them do a group or duo's etc dance after. Or repeat that first show?

for our 10 year anniversary show we re-created some of the best dances from the previous 10 years. In the program we listed which show they were from. It was a great show and a lot of the kids got a big thrill out of being in the dances they saw the older kids do when they were little. Also, invites got sent to all the old alumni to come to the show and cast party.

I was thinking the same as prettycat. Have a section with the "crowd pleasers/best dances" from your first 10 years. You could pick some and maybe have a ballot box in the lobby for everybody to vote on some more???

What about something to do with all of the hits from the past 10 years? Not reusing your dances from the past 10 years, but the songs that have been major hits in the last 10 years? Maybe you can call it "Top Ten Hits" or something like that.

I agree with Jeanni1! It's a cute way to sort of summarize your first 10 years! Maybe sprinkle in a few memories, like the first song you ever played in your first classes or something like too!

Just another cute idea...what if while the audience is waiting for the recital to start or during intermission (if you have one), you had a slideshow of pictures from the past 10 years? Or possibly decorate where you are having your recital with pictures?

I don't know if you have class pictures from the past 10 years, but I think that would be REALLY cute. You can even have parents and students give you pictures to borrow.

Or, what if you some how showed video clips from your last 9 recitals?

What about "Decade of Dance" - you can use some of your current dancers to re-create some of your highlighted dances from years past. Maybe put in the program the name of the dance and it's origination date. You could also use a projector to show dances and dancer's from years past. If any of the dancer's are still there it might be nice to do a "tribute" number with one specific piece. Best of Luck!!
