Computers - General Frustrated with buying music...it won't let me cut and edit it! en>fr fr>en By Nienna Comments: 5626, member since Fri Oct 07, 2005On Tue Nov 28, 2006 12:29 PM
Okay, so there are two songs that I'm currently in love with and I've envisioned a GREAT contemporary piece to the songs that I'd like to audition with next semester. So I need the two songs so that I can cut and paste them together to make the final piece.
For the record the songs are Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap and Mad World by Michael Andrews.
So I buy Hide and Seek from Napster. Open up Goldwave to start cutting it...won't let me do it. I buy it again from Jukebox. Still won't let me do it.
I only find Mad World on iTunes. Won't let me open and cut that either.
Do I need a different music cutting program? If I bought the stupid songs, shouldn't I be allowed to freaking cut and edit them?!
At this point, I'm literally about to head over to Best Buy and just buy the stupid cds, because I'm SO frustrated that I've spent 3 times what the songs are worth just trying to be able to cut them.
Any ideas anyone? 4 Replies to Frustrated with buying music...it won't let me cut and edit it! |

DRM strikes again.
You only bought the rights to listen to the song, not alter or edit them.
Get the car warmed up for the trip to Best Buy.
There are some programs that rip or cleverly bypass the DRM but you will have to search and find them and then you are breaking the content providres EULA. |

Burn into a regular audio CD, then re-rip by yourself.
Yes, pain in the butt. X_X

I would suggest a different program. I use WavePad Masters www.nch.com.au . . . and it's really good,You can also get Switch,to switch your songs to different formats, which can come in pretty handy too.
Wavepad is really easy to understand,Its what I reccomend
Also, with the Itunes song, does it ask for authorization? Because sometimes the programs ask for your itunes password when you try to edit things that you purchase from there. |

You bought mp3's under a digital rights management contract.
You will be able to listen to the songs but that is it. You may not even be able to burn them onto CD's and then rip them back onto the computer because often the file is built so that cannot be done (because it is a breach of the DRM contract).
DRM is a sham.
