This is a question that has being asked again and again. How do you change your username? There are many different ways and hopefully this should explain it all for you.

1. Start a new account and ask a mod to ban your old one. You cannot keep stars or karma if you choose this option.

2. Sign up for the name change exchange. Although this method may take a very long time seeing as there are lots more people wanting a name change than giving one.

3. Win a contest offering a name change or premium membership. Occasionally, on the contest board someone will make a contest offering this as the prize.

4. Buy your own premium membership. Not only do you get a name change but lots of other perks as well!

5. Be EXTREMELY lucky and another member give you one or buy you premium membership.

Hope this clears up some of the confusion!

Warning: Number 2 will take a very long time, and it's highly unlikely that you will get an certificate. We haven't had any donations in a long time; simply because anyone who's willing to donate, has.

Just out of curiosity: if you ask a mod to ban your old account, do the posts you have made stay in DDN and you only can't use the account anymore or does it mysteriously disappear like it never existed?

I guess the first suggestion is the answer, but you never know...

^Well, the mods wouldn't pull all the threads/comments you made, since that'll create holes in the database. All the comments are staying there...just that you're no longer allowed to use the account.

good guide to name changing i am sick of my name this is the nickname ive had since i was 7 my mum set up the account and thought it was fun to use it now i cant change it it drives me nuts will i need to do another 50 posts again if i choose a new account or will they still conut towards my new account?? thanks jess aka squisy aaaarrrggghh.

^It's only bad to get a new account if:
a. Your first account was permanently banned for violating rules.
b. You use the second accound to give your first account karma- that's karma abuse.

In your profile, there will be a link somewhere on the side with all the other links about threads and stuff, and it will say "Certificates" and then theres "List Certificates". Click on it. Then, your name change will be there, and there will be a button next to it that says "Redeem". Click it, and type in your new name, then click the "Redeem" button.

And, Now that you can, I would like to add that you can also buy Name Change Certificates for 5 dollars. Go to your settings and it's in the general tab, first thing you will see.

The user name I want (Becky) is taken but has a zero post count and the user hasnt been active since the day it was made which as like 2 years ago.

I didn't see this post before I bought my certificate! It is just a one time $5 charge right, whereas the premium membership you have to pay every month? I'm SO confused! :S

^No. Premium membership is a once off payment.
