In the Spring/Summer of 2006 the Executive Council of The Rob Roy Pipe Band & Highland Dancers started to think about going to Scotland in 2007. The last trip was in August of 2003. The group had competed at a few Highland Games around Scotland...

Here are the Highland Games that we are going to try to compete at while in Scotland. These may change.

Inverkeithing Highland Games (www.whatsonwhen.com . . .)
As traditional as whisky and tartan, Highland Games are an essential part of the Scottish summer. Inverkeithing Highland Games, on Ballast Park, includes the usual "heavy" sporting events as well as Scottish dancing and bagpiping.
Date: August 4 2007
Town: Inverkeithing
Venue: Ballast Bank
Address: Preston Crescent
Directions: On the north shore of the Firth of Forth, just to the east of the imposing Forth road and rail bridges, Inverkeithing is on the B981. Ballast Bank is on the south of the town, overlooking Inner Bay.

Bridge of Allen Highland Games(www.bofagames.i12.com)
The Bridge of Allan, near Stirling, hosts its annual games every August. Clansmen gather to compete in various strength-testing events, known as the "heavy" sports, while the Scottish dancing and piping competitions are more genteel (if still fairly frenetic).
Date: August 5 2007
Town: Bridge of Allan

Kilt, Vest, Socks & Blouse
Fling, Swords, Seann Tribhuas, Reel

White Dress & Plaid
Flora, Lilt

Entry Fee: 70p per dance for pre-paid entries.
Entry Fee: 80p per dance for phone and field entries.

6 dances * .70 = 4.20 GBP = 9.51 CAD + 1.49 CAD Stamp = 11.00 CAD
6 dances * .80 = 4.80 GBP = 10.87 CAD - CHEAPER!!

Is it worth it to try to wait and enter on the field or should I send in my form early and be guaranteed a place to dance? There are nearly 200 dancers who participate at this games. Hmmm!?!

I have 39GBP and 85p for Scotland so far in cash.

This was sprung on me last night - If I lose the goal weight that Weight Watchers set of XX lbs, my parents will give me 11GBP (and pay me the 9 my mother owes me from a emergency trip she took back in 2004, for a total of 20GBP).

When I get my new goal weight, they said that if I get there they will get me another 10GBP and so on until I leave in July!!

Not too shabby for me!

From what I understand, I can't compete at the World Pipe Band Championships as it is only for Premier Dancers. Oh well, a day to spend in Glasgow getting any shopping done. And going to watch the comp also for a little while.

Catherine

Shopping List - so far
Dad - St. Andrew's Golf Course Golf Towel
Steacy - Edinburgh 2008 Calendar
Jon - Whiskey (Mini Bottles)
Mom - ???
Kim - ???

Just got back from Weight Watchers and I have lost 1.5 lbs. Not bad for the first week. If I lose 1 lb a week that would be good!
